Smile Shops

We build ours in an empty part of a warehouse at our local power company Cinergy/PSI...

They are gracious enough to donate us a huge amount of space for our playing field, our tools/machines, and many other things. They also do this in return for nothing, which i believe is really nice of them to do.

We build our robot at NASA Ames Research Center. We have a couple rooms. We have a mini-machine shop, an office and two other rooms. We're sponsored by a machine shop, so thats were we do our real machining. It's located about ten minutes away from school.

we got stuck in the aerospace and flight room, because it's the tech advisor's room. it's apretty big classroom, along with a small off room for computers, which i might add were extrememly slow, and for a majority of the build period, disconnected from the school network. because of that, we had to "hack" in (safe mode), and change the network settings, so we could program! we had enough room, but we didn't have any more tools beyond like, a jigsaw (one of the students), a bajillion year old drill press, a circular saw, and all the regular hand tools. if anyone wants to donate tools to us, feel free.

Talking In the mall!!!!

We have a store front in the Mall (I use the term loosely). We are located between the only movie theater in town and a pizza parlor. Sears is stones throw away. We have displayed dead robots and trophys in the front. The walkers give us a few odd looks when we are in the robot building season....

Not much for machine tools but we are on display to the community. Tools, Pizza and Movies are within a short walk.

We built ours at one of our sponsors (New Era Technologies). We had tons of room. Lots of machines to play with.

The seperated ares are good so we can keep the refridgerator away from the electrical work area. And keep the computer crew away from everyone else; no one likes them anyways.
(hee hee J/K you guys We luv you anyways.)

yeah, dupont was nice to us this year and gave us a huge area to work with. they also let us use their huge machine shop with sheet metal sheers (and punches, benders, and angle cutters), bridgeports (which for anyone who doesn't know are drill presses that are electronically measured to 0.0005 of an inch), a nine foot tall drill press that can power a three inch drill bit (which I have personally seen and are quite cool, but also quite heavy), an eight foor tall bandsaw with a jaw that opens up to two feet, radii saws, and a rotary. they've given us a lot and we're thankful for it. they've also spent the time to officially train all of us so that we can use these machines (which dupont wouldn't let us do if we didn't have proper training).

Simon

p.s. stupid washers!

They didn't give us cash, but AES corporation donated space at their power plant for us to build the robot. If any of you saw "The One" with Jet Li, it's the same place where they filmed the big fight scene.

The Brazilian Machine builds its robot during vacations, so we use a normal classroom, wich is pretty big. Inside the classroom, there is a small room separated by a glass wall, wich is our "kitchen" or space for relaxing.

We have our own class room just for first with machines every where and we have our own playing field right next door. We use our school machine shop to make parts and the auto body paint shop. We use every shop at school to make the robot.
