save as lets me download a .mov file but the file is less than 1kb... opened it with text editor and it just has information to another link... tried to use that link to get the file and could not...

any advise?

need from lecture 2 and beyond
Your problem is that even if you use the trick I learned, and shown above, then when you plop the link to the video:

http://www.ats.ucla.edu/videos/edu231e_1_ref.mov

in a browser, then it just links you to a streaming movie file. What this saves as, is just a shortcut to the actual video hidden on the UCLA server somewhere. Even if you right click, and save that link, then.. you still have to connect to watch the movie.

Thus the fact (which I have determined) that streaming media really sux.

Even a little program I wrote doesn't work to grab it.
To DL the movie, you will have to gain exclusive access to the UCLA server that the movie is hosted on from what I can tell.

But then again..
I'm not sure about QT files. Maye someone else can help you better.

Re: How do I save a quicktime .mov file?

Hi,

I have the same problem but of a different type.

The Quicktime movie opens up inside a Javascript window.

I am trying to copy the movie but that option is disabled when I right click on the movie.

How do I save the movie.

Please suggest.

Thanx

Ciao

How do I save the movie.
Right click in the window, view page source. Look through the source until you find the .mov link. Copy that link, paste it into a new window, then Save the page.

HTH,

Dave

Like Elgin said, it's a streeming video. Meaning that the video is downloading to your cojmputer as you play it and then going away. it saves just enough in a buffer so that it plays smooth-ish. But the buffer doesn't stay. There are programs that you can get (can't think of any now) that will save streeming video for you. but the .mov file that you want isn't availible in any standard way. And like Elgin said, Streeming video sucks

Re: How do I save a quicktime .mov file?

The simplest way to save a qucktime file is to click on the triangle button on the bottom right of the control bar. Then click save as quicktime movie. The feature only works on the quicktime full version.
