Re: OS X on a PC
Wow that's awesome. It'll definitely run slow due to the x86's lack of registers but hey, running OS X and XP at the same time will be awesome! I'll tinker with it during the summer. Anyone actually do it?

Re: OS X on a PC
I read somewhere not too long ago that Apple was actually debating on whether or not to release and sell OSX for PC.

Re: OS X on a PC
Apple's been maintaining Darwin for x86 since OS X was released. The link is in this article. They've had ISOs up since the beginning. The only thing that I see as new here is the emulator. Who wants to run an OS in an emulator, though?
There was (a long time ago (2001)) an online petition to have Apple release OS X for x86. It used to live at www.osxonintel.com, but alas, it is no more. If you want to run it, download and install Darwin. |

Re: OS X on a PC
I don't think PPC emulation on the x86 will get a whole lot quicker. It's just the way they're made. It's a pretty neat thing.. but for now, I'll stick with my Mac
(Also, Darwin is made available due to the BSD licensing since that's what Darwin is based off of) |

Re: OS X on a PC
Why? (other than the engineer/geek factor)
There is actually a program for windows that looks like OSX. Like, actually draws the windows and buttons to match. It's some stupid invasive image thing. Anyone got a G4 they want to get rid of? I want one to gut and replace with PC parts. |

Rhapsody was the operating system that could run natively on both on X86 and PPC equipment. Rhapsody was basically the NEXT operating system with a new interface. The applications were even cross compatible because of an application environment called "Yellow Box"(Now known as Cocoa). However it was dropped because many key developers didn't want to program in Cocoa. http://www.macos.utah.edu/Documentat...x_history.html Mac OS X was based on Rhapsody but also had carbon and the classic environment. |
