Re: Excel Attachments?
I think he would like to be able to click and have it open up as a word or excel document but I didn't think the word documents opened like that either. I was pretty sure you have to save everything in order to open it.
EDIT: I guess I hadn't opened a .doc off here for a while. Yeah. The .xls is like that at least for now. Last edited by ngreen : 19-05-2004 at 17:42. |

Re: Excel Attachments?
Well, when I click on a Word document, it displays correctly. It either opens in Word or opens in Internet Explorer with the wacky Word controls (like PDFs in IE). It depends on which computer I use on what it does with Word files, so this is obviously configured on the client end.
However, when I click on Excel files, it tries to read it as ASCII text or something and I just get a bunch of gibberish in IE. Therefore, I assume that the .xls files are linked differently than .doc files, and if .xls files are linked in the same way .doc files are linked they will open properly, but I might be totally off in assuming how this works. Sorry if this is something wrong on my end... I tried this on a couple of computers and searched before I posted ![]() Last edited by Greg McCoy : 19-05-2004 at 17:47. Reason: added stuff |

Re: Excel Attachments?
This is a problem that occurs because IE attempts to open the Excel file, but for some reason it is not encoded right or something. In order to open Excel files from these links, you must right click the link and select 'Save As...'
Hope this helps. |

Re: Excel Attachments?
I know...It's not really that big of a deal, I just thought I'd mention it so that the forum would work better, as some people were confused trying to figure out how to open my Excel file. Besides, I'd hate for Brandon to get bored

Re: Excel Attachments?
occasionally for me, the pages are read as ASCII, not HTML. but the persistance seems to imply this isn't the case.
