I doubt we will be seeing a new controller because of team numbers because the current controller goes up to team 4095 (hopefully I did my math right).

Re: How many teams in 2005?

sorry about that wetzel, i typed that message early yesterday morning and i retyped a reply just now but deleted =(. in any case you are right the OI's can handle more teams i checked with OI's prior to 2003 and they can handle greater team numbers all you really gotta do is solder a fourth digit lcd to the board. the only real difference between OI's is the programming ( at least thats what innov. first told me when i ordered a 2001 OI this yr. If i'm not mistaken to set team numbers it uses binary. and binary can go a long way. If any major change is done to the OI it will probably be its size. =) any way getting back to the topic at hand:

how many teams in 2005 : estimated 999 - 1250
by 2007: estimated 1400 - 1500

350 was inactive in both 2002 and 2003. We came back in 2004 as 350. I think that as long as you make sure FIRST doesnt delete you from their database, you can keep the number. A good idea is if you go inactive, let FIRST know you intend on returning.

As for the thread topic:
I think that we will have no more than 1050. Even though we are gaining a lot of rookies, a ldecent number of veteran teams are dropping like flies due to the increased registration fee.

Highest team number, no higher than 1700

Re: How many teams in 2005?

Im betting on somewhere between 1000 and 1100.

And how much has the registration fee changed?

As long as you have the email address (team ID) and password of the mentor/leader in charge of registration in TIMS, you can technically register the same number. Many of the veteran teams who had to re-register as rookies lost the person in charge of registration, or dramatically changed team structure (changed affiliation with school, sponsor, etc.), and registered a new number as a new team. I don't believe FIRST cleans out the database of old teams, so conceivably any team registered in TIMS can be re-registered, provided the correct contact information/email/password is provided. This means any veteran teams on a hiatus may and hopefully will return next year, and spend this season fund raising and practicing.

Just remember the competitions are open to the public, so even if your team is taking a year off, it doesn't mean you or your team can't come to the events anyway! Show up and become surrogate members of another team, or just check out the 'bots and cheer everyone on. There's still plenty of good times to be had, even if you don't have a robot!

Re: How many teams in 2005?

It looks like two teams have signed up for 4 competitions teams 47 and 494. I wish I could be a part of such a team that gets so much action during the season.

Re: How many teams in 2005?

I personally LOVED our rookie year! It's been my favorite year so far, but i hope this year will rival it!

were you guys on your team during it's rookie year? if so, how did it go? if not, do you wish you had been?

If I remember correctly, bot 47 and 494 did 3 regionals and the championship during 2004, IRI, Kettering Kickoff, and Sweet Repeat V- Seven total competitions (that I remember- If there were more... ) Teams that decide to do many competitions always have the extra design challenge of endurance. Our robot did 2 regionals, chanpionships, IRI, KK, and SR-V.- you should see the amount of patchwork aluminum braces and latex bands that are strewn about the robot to keep it in shape.
And to keep with the topic of this thread, Michigan is in the lead with 93 teams, just barely ahead of New York's 89 (homestate pride!). We now rely on those last-minute turnouts that can bring us to over 1000 teams; if that doesn't happen this year it is almost a guarantee for next year.
_Alex

Re: How many teams in 2005?

Today's the day for second event registration (10/28/04). So far, there are 791 teams signed up. After today, it's going to get harder to count teams.

It looks like we might not break 1000 this year. We'll have to see what happens when the NASA grants and the FIRST $1000 team assistance grants are awarded.
