Re: Kick-off lock-in

I don't think it will be to hard to get district approval, Our student council has lock-ins just before homecoming week to decorate. I don't think we will be doing much brainstorming. I think the idea was to start thinking about the game, but mostly have workshops and a movies.

Re: Kick-off lock-in

I think starting the season off with a lock-in is a bad idea. You will likely endup sleep deprived by the end of the season, no reason to start off the season that way. I do like the idea of one in December though. It would be a good team building excercise.

Re: Kick-off lock-in

well liek i said you can also have a lock in well in advance like we are having ours 3 weeks before kick off...its just a time when the team can bond and get to know each other more since you will be spending a whole lot of time with these strangers!

Re: Kick-off lock-in

all we need to have a lock in is a building permit and permission slips from everyone who is going...doesn't sound too tough!

Re: Kick-off lock-in

For the lock in, we plan to do a bunch of team building type activities also. so far we have ideas like flashlight tag, and capture the flag..things like that. if you have any other ideas for fun team games, i would appreciate your ideas. thanks!

As someone who is on the front line the first few days, I've found that creating a robot in a few days isn't the best idea, instead, coming up with ideas, going home and sitting on them, then coming back the next day helps way more than a lock in. But that's my IMHO.

After the Kickoff, most students are already over stimulated. We usually just go thru the KOP and see the goodies.
We will also review the game that was just broadcasted. Usually someone will miss something, so there is a lot of filling in the gaps to make sure everyone is on the same level.

Next, printing of the documentations. Everyone gets a copy and their reading assignments.

Sunday is spent reading the game and rules, which this generates a lot of one-on-one discussions and IMs. Some small groups may get together.
Monday after school is the Lock-In session. It can last 2-4 hours of discussions and debate.
One rule that is applied during the Lock-In session is: everyone’s opinion counts and everyone is allowed to present his or her idea without being challenged.

Re: Kick-off lock-in

we've been wanting to do a lock in for the past couple of years. A lot of the sports teams at our school do them. But our advisors told us we werent alowed to, do to the fact there are girls and guys. and a few of us are in relationships with each other. Have any of you (especially mentors) found problems with not being able to trust students. or any incidents
