NASA JPL Accident

A van from JPL crashed this morning, leaving at least three dead and five injured.
Team 991's prayers and thoughts go out to all at NASA, JPL, and their families and friends.

Re: NASA JPL Accident

An estimated 16 people die every 10 seconds.
I don't see why these are special, tragic as it may be.

Re: NASA JPL Accident

Not being from the States I could be wrong but, I believe that Nasa JPL are huge sponsors in that area. A lot of the engineers come from JPL that work with teams. There is a huge commitment from NASA to the FIRST program. I believe that they are the largest sponsor (please correct me if I am wrong).

The FIRST community is a close knit one and if something happens we all feel a bit of the pain. I wish heart felt sympathy to all those involved.

That may be correct, but lets have some compassion.

I can understand your position, with all the unfortunate events happening on that side of the world, but the people at JPL have always done incredible things with technology. From designing next generation air and spacecraft, to putting a pair of rovers on Mars. A number of JPL engineers are directly involved with FIRST, and a huge part of the community here on ChiefDelphi. It's a very close community, and we all share each other's triumphs and tribulations, no matter how great or small. Losing anyone connected to the community is a difficult thing, and will be felt by many people, directly and indirectly. To those who know or have been influenced by anyone involved in this tragic event, my thoughts and sympathy are with you.

Re: NASA JPL Accident

A little injection of reality here guys. Yov is right. They have our sympathies and already had our utmost respect as FIRST members, which makes it ht more close to home, but I am sure Yov didn't mean any disrespect. I find it a bit ignorant to cite "that side of the world" and call him disrespectful. There's no need to make a verbal scuffle out of something tragic.

I am sorry if I offended anyone here, I mean no disrespect.
I do however stand by what I said, but if you have anything you want to discuss with me, please contact me elsewhere, I'm open for discussion.

WEll i am trying not to start a firestorm and no one has offended me but just let me put in my two cents

sure 16 people die every 10 seconds and they might be a statistic, but they are still mothers and fathers and childrent to someone, and even tho they are a statistic someone is still hurt that they are gone.

But anyway my prayers go out to the family's

Re: NASA JPL Accident

Of course I don't treat death as merely a statisic, that was not my point at all, I guess I didn't really handle this situation very well, and I'm sorry for that...
I've been told I'm quite insensitive, some things come out the wrong way sometimes, sorry if I offended anyone.
