No offense to your uncle, but that is his fault.
The government/military offers money for enlistees to put toward college ( Montgomery GI Bill). Right now you can get up to $48k for college/continued education after you enlistment is up. I'm sure that your uncle wasn't offered
that much money, but then again education wasn't so expensive back then.
That military is what you make it... if you enjoy it and play your cards right, there will be a wealth of oppertunities open to you. If you do it simple to get out of going to college for a few years, you're gonna have a difficult time adjusting later on.
