Re: Official 2005 Clue Thread
[joke] My friend Nick is going back to his IB school in Hong Kong. You know, I'm so eager to find out about the rules that I'll have him email them to me on the 8th in HK cause it'll be the 7th here! [/joke]
Seriously though, I like the pyramid idea very much after seeing the images Petey posted. If the above post is correct, then perhaps there is a hole or some scoring object in the top? However, if this is to be a solid pyramid, then I dislike the idea because last year's field setup was hard enough to drive around in. |

Re: Official 2005 Clue Thread
Since we're in the business of over-analysis, I thought I'd share my immediate thoughts.
The clue kind of reminds me of a clue from a cryptic crossword, wherein oftentimes you have to find hidden meanings through anagrams. (Usually the anagrams are triggered by words such as 'crazy' or 'mixed', but there isn't anything of the sort in this particular clue, which leads me to believe that I'm barking up the wrong tree, but then again who isn't?) So I've found a few anagrams for the phrase 'pi, you and me', and I've come up with some incredibly useless things, but mildly amusing nonetheless: Yup, I'm anode Yea, impound! You'd pain me Aim upon dye Nude myopia These were some that jumped out at me. Like I said, in cryptic crosswords, there are usually triggering words, like 'between pi, you and me' could mean that there is a word in order within the letters of those words. (Like the country name 'hungary' in 'don't shun Gary, he just wants to play', which is from a book I had as a younger child). It's a slightly different way of thinking, which is what first is all about, right? Anyway, I hope kickoff weekend is great for everyone. |

Although...if you keep on the 3's...we could see 3, 6, and 9 foot pyramids, couldn't we? I'm still interested in whether or not we'll see baseballs this year. They would be dangerous...but... One thing we really haven't decided that much is the gameplay. I'm very interested in seeing how this clue fits into the gameplay, not just the physical design of the field. --Petey |

Re: Official 2005 Clue Thread
OOOH.
King of the Hill--I hadn't thought of that. But wouldn't it be dangerous for the robots? I imagine that FIRST doesn't want to produce a situation in which a robot could undergo serious harm if it fell. It wouldn't be like dropping off of the bar--it would tumble. Well. We'll find out in....10 hours? --Petey |

Re: Official 2005 Clue Thread
I highly doubt it would be a King of the Hill type of game because it would hurt the robots, but in 2003 the game was like that basically so you never know. I do think there will be a pyramid of some sort on the field somewhere. Maybe more then one. Maybe a giant cube, a giant pyramid, and a giant ball. But I am way too excited right now to think.

Re: Official 2005 Clue Thread
Pi - if spelled pie is round - maybe a round field.
Combine Red and Blue (the color of the teams of FIRST) and you get purple - or the color of amethyst. 3 sets of teams on a circular field. |

Re: Official 2005 Clue Thread
thinking about last year's clue and dealt with a rule of the game so could there be something matched with the clue to a rule, you can make up. but another one of my guesses is it has to do with a rule of some thing. but the rule deals with the field and what you can do.
