3 goal robots

I was just curious, at the regionals, has anyone seen any other 3-goal grabbers other thatn MOE- team 365, and Sparky 3.0- team 384. Thanks.

Yea, I hadn't seen that- didn't see many matches, really- too much work, robot in pieces is not good. However, I did read that after starting the thread. My question, though was about three goal grabbers like us- who grab them all at once at the beginning.

Remains of mangled wing

Which piece of mangled green metal do you speak of? we have I think at least two bent pieces of metal for every match- once again, that was fixed for saturday. Anyway, I know that Wissahikon (sp?) was touting the worst damaged piece we had- which they had inflicted- when they were trying to get thier robot picked for elims.

not sighted yet, but look for Beatty...

The rumors are flying that Beatty (team 71) has an excellent 3 goal grabber. We'll find out in 4 days if it works as advertised. For everyone's sake except their elimination partners, I hope it doesn't

Beach Bot's strategy involves two goals, but we have capability for a third.
Here's hoping it'll actually work.

Beatty

Yea, I heard about Beatty (71) and was inspired to search for a picture of thier robot. I must say that it is very impressive. Also, it seems as if they will be able to push anything with their shuffle drive. A link to a high-resolution pic is shown below.

Note: no front wheels

that thing's a beast! I just hope that they pick us again. I wouldn't want to have to play against that thing. a note on the drive system though, noticing that it doesn't have front wheels, it must have feet pushing it to move forward somewhere. my question is where and what. the only way that we could see to make feet to work was if they were pneumatic. even if all the cylinders go to pushing that beast, that's about 240 lbs. of what I've seen from our regionals, that's not that much force to be pushing with. there are a lot of robots out there that can push over 250 lbs and move pretty fast. maybe they were inventive and came up with an egg gear or something to cycle without having to back-drive the motor. anyway, I don't doubt that they'll either be our best friend or worst enemy, but I would like to see how their high torque drives work.

Simon-
from what brian and I determined last night, they have the chiaphuas (and possibly bosches) powering the caterpillar drive with an egg-shaped gear like you mentioned. Also, we thought that the shock absorbers probably have near frictionless surfaces for easy sliding. I also think that they have some motors powering the back wheels for turning- I would think that turning is good. These are probably geared high for speed, like we were at first.the only disadvantage I can see is that they start vertical- it will be interesting to see how long it takes them to fall.

the chiapuas is a good idea (for them, bad for us). as for the back wheels, a thought that just popped into my head. the way they're put they might drive a ways while falling so as to make their to-the-goal time less. either way, it's a tank that I don't particularly want to play against. we (meaning pit crew) have enough work to do when we're only bent mildly. if we play against them, they'll tear us apart. I just don't want to be there when the carniage lets loose.

One thought I had was- if they put out their wings- that means they push from the middle, their only drive is in the center- putting the force on the chasis- minimizing damage.

also think how much big foot can take (and to appease the engineers, I won't give a number). if we do play against us, it'll take them a while to move us even if they can in the first place.I don't off-hand know the stats on the chiapuahs, but I think it'll be a good fight if we do play them (provided that we plant before they get going). this is all saying that we do play against them. we haven't seemed to get placed with many teams that we'd either hoped to or against. either way, knowing our luck, we'll get torn up. I guess I missed the part where you said beatty was a three goal grabber. that'll help distribute force to where we want it. I (from a technical standpoint) just hope they don't change their strategy to just go for one goal, cause then their best chance is to go for the outsides. if they do, we're screwed. they'll go right through our u-channel. I'll agree with whoever said it to joe, this years game has changed (at least at the regionals that we've been at) from who control balls and goals to who can do the most damage to moe.

MOE mauler award

Well, the purpose of the award is to show that we're not holding any grudges against anyone and that we realize that we are going to get broken in a normal match. We do realize the potential for teams TRYING to break us in order to get the award, but we hope (for the pit crew's sake) that gracious profesionalism will prevail.
