Robotic Competitors Uniform

The best way, I've found, to describe to a layman a FIRST competition is simply 'it just like going to a sporting event.' Although everyone who does this year in and year knows it more like the 7th game of the World Series combined with the Super Bowl (and it happens about 30 times in 30 different cities). Anyway, going along with that theme, I'm looking for feedback on an idea. Even though I do not get the impression this is an original idea, I've found no posts about a similar one.

The idea is to create a robotic competitors uniform. I baseball players uniform is very unique, so is a football players, a soccer players, etc. Why don't we have one. Some teams have T-shirts, some teams use polo shirts, others use football or soccer jerseys. There is not a standard garment that identifies robotic teams from any other sport.

If you were to create a robotic competitors jersey/uniform. What would it look like, what features would it have? Thoughts, comments, and laughter welcome.

Also, if you have had similar ideas, how well where they received?

Thanks

Re: Robotic Competitors Uniform

I don't like the idea of everyone having the same type of shirt, that is one of the many things that sets FIRST off from the other sports, is the creativeness of each team with the way they dress and decorate them selves. Each team that has a different shirt design or even jump suits and polos are different as there robots form other teams and that is one of my favorite things about FIRST.

and what would happen to the shirt trade between teams if they all looked standard just with different logo's?

But it was a nice idea

Re: Robotic Competitors Uniform

yeah i've gotta agree with Kyle. the beauty of FIRST is its complete lack of conformity and restraints. personally, i think i'd cry (and others may cry as well) if i couldnt wear my pink outfits and run around in a bikini and pink body paint. life is just more fun that way.

it was a good idea though.. i see where you got the idea from, but i kind of like things the way they are. FIRST is fuel for creativity... why hinder something so rare? we should let it flourish! ^.^

Re: Robotic Competitors Uniform

Apparently it has already been done.

I'm not sure if I like it though, and keep in mind that it is not anything that is required for you to do, but Logo-Loc is an official partner and it is just an idea of some merchandise available to you..

http://www.logoloc.com/first/teamFIRST.html

I personally don't like how the "05" is in the back (meaning 2005), because of how it makes me think I am on team #5 when I wear it. Not that there is anything wrong with team #5, but if i have something that says Team X, I want it to be my team number. Just a thought.

edit: By the way, Logo-Loc is just recycling the tried and true clothing of sports that were mentioned and adapting it to FIRST Team gear.

I do like the idea of making a brand new standard if for nothing else, then just to say we did it, of a FIRST uniform. Good question.

I would like to think (being mostly on the mechanical team - and having a lot to do with the building aspect of the robot) that a FIRST uniform would mainly consider something that can be easily cleaned, and something with pockets for tools, or a scale or a micrometer/calipers such as a work shirt and a pair of pants, and/or a toolbelt..

But, that is just me.

I still do think that the individualized team gear of all FIRST teams are great things, and I love to trade a shirt for a shirt.

Re: Robotic Competitors Uniform

Here's something to keep in mind: Not all soccer jerseys are the same. Not all swimsuits are the exact same. Yah, just about every team has a tshirt. But those are different. Different teams have different jerseys. I've never seen that many mascots on one sports team...

Re: Robotic Competitors Uniform

my main beef against having a standardized jersey for everyone would be that because there are so many FIRST teams, you couldn't get enough variety between teams. I like the way you can pick out a team in the crowd becasue of what everyone happens to be wearing... if everyone had the same sorta outfit on, it'd be much harder to pick out a team in the crowd.
