Turning Left and right

I'm sure people have noticed the rigidity of the given chassi. We can't seem to find a method to make their chassi turn fluidly. We have a two motor set-up.

I assumed that perhaps turning off one motor lets say left and leaving the right
going will make it turn right, but thats not really working.

Also, I havent found the "2005 default programming manual" only 2004's; are there robot rotate functions in the FRC.hex ?

Were getting frustrated because we don't know how[other than the method above] and when we are turning in code, if it is supplied -in default code- and how to predict it.

I assume caster wheels might help....

Re: Turning Left and right

Little more information could help. . . .
Are you using the CIM's or Fisher Price as drive motors??
2, 4, or 6 wheel design??
What kind of Wheels/Thread are you using??
2 wheels powered and 2 casters??

Most teams do what is called Tank Steering.
What it normally is that when you want to turn left you reverse the left motor slightly and give forward power to the right motor.

It if the opposite for if you want to turn right.

This works great if you don't have too much friction.

When you "turn off" a motor, it will coast freely. The wheels have to slip sideways in order for the robot to turn. When you try to turn by driving only one side, you just have to apply a little power in reverse to the other side to keep it from getting dragged along too.
