Re: My mother, misquoted.

Our school does it. But it's not like other sports in that you sign up and you get a letter. We have our teachers vote upon who is deserving most. In a team of around 25 kids we usually give out about 10 letters.

To expand upon Andy's response, each student that wishes to be considered for a varsity letter must complete a questionnaire-like form in which the student details activities that they did on the team such as which group they primarily worked with (3D animation, fundraising, CAD, machining, design/build, drive team, scouting, etc), what types and amounts of fundraising the student did, which community outreach projects they assisted with (FLL, Vex, parades, sponsor and school visits, etc), and what training they partook in (via the FIRST website, at team meetings, with mentors, or pre-kickoff).

Re: Robotics letters

For everyone who has successfully gotten a letter jacket for Robotics, what letter did you get??

Can you custom order a number to be your team number?

I know they usually only do 2 digits for your graduating year, but say you have 3 digits, can you get that in that chenille* material the letters/numbers are made from on letter jackets?

I may look into this, but if someone has already done this, I won't bother starting from scratch.

Thanks!

*It's not chenille is it? I don't know what it's called.
(oops.. never mind, I guess I was right: http://www.mecasportswear.com/html/chenille.htm )

I think your answer would be yes regarding the team number. In our case we asked one local business who works with the band and athletics for help. We contacted them and they were happy to work with us. Ours isn't the team number, it is the team name/logo. The costs varied for us including the initial set-up fee, prototype, and then depended on amount ordered. It was an old dream that became a new reality this month and some alumni are going to be very happy. Chenille is good.

Re: Robotics letters

Not much discussion on this topic lately! I hope that means more schools are now awarding them. We successfully convinced our principal and Athletic Director with this video. Feel free to use it if it helps. I have a higher quality one that I can send you, but it wouldn't upload to youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8-CVg0QAyg

Re: Robotics letters

Team 1986 members can earn a varsity letter if they meet the contribution and leadership qualifications set by the team. The robotics team is highly regarded by our school administration and student body.

Re: Robotics letters

they are offered through my team's schools, just have to meet the basic requirements to get one. But sadly it is by far one of the least respected letters among students. i constantly hear people talking trash about them
