Exciting regionals

Ok im from tream 245 the winners of the Sacramento UC DAVIS regional this was a week one regional. the matches were exciting and overall it was a good event....this last weekend a few members from mty team went to the Ypsi Regional i dont quite know the offical title. but at one person on our team described it. "Its like watching sap come out of a tree in january". the regional wasnt as fun to watch. and we were sitting there thinkin the east is suposed to have soem powerhouse teams. frankly we were more impressed by the westcoast teams... and one have Other regionals that are FUN to go to and FUN to watch..i need a list for next year of where we want to go.

Hmm... I personally thought that the Great Lakes Regional was pretty fun to watch, with many new rookie teams, and some pretty awesome autonomous modes!

But I kind of see your point there... It does get fairly predictable with the many powerhouse teams competing... And I didn't have much enthusiasm when watching the eliminations, because I pretty much had a feeling that either the alliance with the Juggernauts, or the 66, 67, and 68 alliance would win the tournament... Although the alliance of 1023, 322, and 308 proved me wrong by proving to be a great challenge during the finals! Safe to say that any team can prove my goofy predictions wrong!

i am on team 66 and our alliance was really strong with us being previous nat. champs and winning lastyears regional at great lakes but along with that we had a great caper and that was hot and truck was great on defense any ways we have been to 1 regional but i was at glr last year and both years they have been really interesting especially last years glr.

I think that the finals at the Pittsburgh Regional were awesome because they were totally unpredicatable. I though the first place alliance (consiting on MOE, 808 and 869) would take it all, but they didn't. It was quite exciting!

I have to say that out of the three years in FIRST i liked the Finger Lakes Regional the best, no we didn't win it but it was a great first week rookie regional! and i hope to see a lot more teams there next year and some more great competition!

This years game does not seem to be exciting on the surface. I have done 2 regionals and both were sleepers day 1. As the 2nd day started the quality multiplied. The finals in both regional were intense and exciting and people hung on their seats to see who won the final match. I had heard it said that the FLR last game was the best ending ever and then came the finals at Pittsburgh. You gotta see the final match to believe it. If someone has a copy they could post I know I would love to see it.

BTW both regionals had 0 teams that had played before so it might be different once we start getting teams that have a regional or 2 under their belts.

To say the Great Lakes Regional this year was like watching sap drip from a tree is sort of like saying FIRST is just another sport. I must say that I was watching all the matches up to finals in the tournament from the upper bowl seats with my mom, dad, and sister(Current T66 member). Sure it may have been predictable, but you must admit that the game itself was fun to watch. One after another tetras were being stacked, sometimes descored by their own color, drawing oohs from the crowd. It was fast, furious, and absolutely fun. In other words, FIRST made a pretty good game this year. No doubt about it.

The Arizona Regional has been one of the smallest the past 2 years (28 teams this year and 36 last year), but it's been one of the best from the sounds of it. You get to know every single team pretty well, and we got 12 matches in this year (we had 10 or 11 last year). The Regional this year had 5 matches with scores over 60 (including a 112-13 crazy match we got to be part of) and had 5 teams all finish at 9-3 for the 5 top seeds. The #1 alliance hasn't one the Regional in at least 3 years (last year we were part of the alliance that beat #1, this year we were part of #1 when we lost), and the winner tends to be pretty unpredictable. Plus Dean Kamen came out this year, that always adds to it.

We came in 2nd place at the Arizona regionals. If you ask me, the semi-finals for our bracket was so exciting. I was up the entire time cheering on and jumping with joy. 980 is definitely a great team, and we were up against them. We had bad luck driving in the first match as we got stuck under a large tetra for a good 15-20 seconds, then broke free. As soon as we broke free, a great turn of luck came to us as 980 flipped over and was unable to do what they do best, cap tetras. In the second match, 980's alliance won by 1 point. The match was pretty much balanced. Then, finally, in the 3rd match of our bracket in the semi-finals, there was a huge war over the center row of tetras. We would cap one, 980 would cap right on top of us. An alliance partner of theirs capped one, we would cape right on top. It was pretty much like that even up to our back row. Luckily, we had our back row triple-played. All 6 robots went back to their side of the field. The final score was 35-38, red alliance. The major factor that helped us win was that we had tetras on top of the large tetras, and they had theirs on the bottom.

Overall, the competition was extraordinary at the Arizona Regional. I was thrilled when we won the semi-finals. Going through the harder bracket, sadly, hurt our robot greatly. Our turret motor had burned out at the very end and we had to take our timeout to replace it. We ran out of timeout time and we still hadn't replaced the motor. The red alliance for the Final round graciously called their timeout for us seeing that we weren't capable of playing and we were the team to beat there. We barely had enough time to put in the bandor motor as it's a very complex setup for our turret. We rushed onto the field and began our match. Our alliance partner, 1212, missed the capping in autonomous, yet it didn't quite matter as they still had control of the tetra when the match started up. They capped it and all was good. We went up to the automated loading station and capped the middle right tetra. As soon as we did this, team 991, The Dukes, robot flipped over in the middle of the field. We were playing 2 vs 3 and this left for team 555, who was had a very good robot for scoring triple plays under the tetras and were fairly decent at playing decent, to defend us. This pretty much made it harder for us to cap tetras. We still capped the middle tetra, but without help, it wasn't possible to win. You play as a team, and you win as a team. If one fails, all fail. That's pretty much how it went. We lost that match by a large margin. During the time in between the 1st and 2nd match, we placed our lexan on and made sure everything was right since we couldn't during the 2 timeouts. 2nd match, we missed the capping in autonomous as we were ready to cap this time. As soon as the Dukes started, they rushed for the human loading station and went to cap the middle left tetra. As they did this, something went wrong with their mother board and their robot wasn't of any help for the rest of the match. Them being nowhere near the middle and literally in a corner, we couldn't utilize them as a block to get away from 555 as they started to block us as their alliance capped tetras. Once again, were were playing 2 vs 3 and did the best we could. Our alliances, teams 1212 and 991, did an excellent job. Luck just struck us the wrong way. Either way, this is the furthest team 987, us, have ever gone in competition. I congradulate 555 and their alliance partners on great teamwork and sportsmanship.

This competition was filled with action. 1266 could cap 3 tetras at once, 842 was awesome at defense, 980 and 987 both had turrets and shift on-the-fly transmissions, 60 had a very inventive allignment of wheels so they could spin on axis, 624 could pick up vision tetras in autonomous, team 64 had one of the best ways to cap goals, 1401 came all the way from Mexico and played a very defensive game. This is just the icing on the cake. On top of that, one of the referees was very pretty, lol. There were so much more competition out there. I just don't have the scouting papers in front of me. If you think this is action packed, just watch the Las Vegas regionals in 2 weeks as 60, 64, 987, and many, many other teams will be there. It will definitely be a show you can't pass by.

Another team from the Arizona regional! We (team 498) were the team allied with 980 that kept capping everything they didn't. We were so close in that last match against you guys, we were going to cap the center goal with a tetra we had, but when we turned it got stuck on the back of our arm and we wouldn't have gotten it off in time. Arizona was one of the best regionals I've been to, and if we want a few numbers...

Another regional to watch out for is LA in 3 weeks. 980, 80, and hopefully 498 will all be there.

I think that something was wrong with 80 in the playoffs. They weren't producing offense like they had during the qualifying matches. And yes, that was a great match. That was my first regional and hopefully I'll have exciting ones like that to look forward to.

yay i love sacramento too. So much fun. I think svr is going to be good as well though this year, 5 or the 6 teams from the sacramento finals will be there, not to mention lots of other good teams. Of course im biased though, ive never been to any others

I was in the finals with team 1249 and it was just exciting on the floor the last match.

This years Florida Regional was the best regional I have been to in my 4 years. The competition was so intense and the elimations were so hard fought with two quarterfinal match-ups going to a third match as well as the second semi-final. There are some serious National Championship contenders and amazing rookies that were in Orlando: 61, 108, 179, 233, 1402, 1592 and so on. I think this is finally the year a Florida team will take home the gold in the dome.
