Re: pic: controller case
Looks great. I wish our team would make one, every year we are going to and run out of time. Good job, keep up the great work.

Re: pic: controller case
I am curious, did you just complete this for a competition or just for having a neet controller case for a soon to be past year bot? Because if its for a competition i hope you relize the rules state that you are not to modify your control case (operator stations setup) after the ship date. That was even answered in the FIRST Q & A System.

Re: pic: controller case
its going to be used for competition this year. It was design well before ship date but it was not painted or had the stickers so i waited until i had free time to do that and focused on the robot...this is the finished product after a paint job thats all

Re: pic: controller case
It doesn't matter whether or not it was designed before ship. The rules say you can't modify it add to it, make it, etc. after ship date. It would be like making a base for your robot and shipping it off and while its gone you make an arm, and when you get to the competition you say "well it was designed before ship date".
I realized that this rule is not followed closely by many teams. But i am just pointing out that it is a rule. And if it was me i wouldn't take the chance of FIRST saying that you couldn't use your OI Controls for competition, or saying that you have to buy new ones to replace the old or anything like that. |

Ok, well, i am not saying that i don't agree with you personally, just making sure that you knew the rule.

Re: pic: controller case
i knew nothing could be changed or added thats why it was done before ship date....i dont see how painting its a modification is all that why i waited

Re: pic: controller case
Right, i completly agree with you now. But when u first posted i thought you had did the whole thing just recently. Now that i know its just painted thats a completly different story. I don't really think FIRST looks at that rule closely anyway.

How do you access the tether port/plug in the competition port?

Re: pic: controller case
I notice a lack of connected joysticks, does this mean your robot is fully autonomus, and your drivers just pretend to control it

Re: pic: controller case
I agree that nobody will care about the paint and I think the rule is more meant for the teams that have the resources to build two robots and the like.
I read that rule to keep the 6 weeks at 6 weeks and not more which some teams can do... its especially frustrating to programming because in the past, thats when we finally got the practice robot and could fix bugs if any were there and the like, also get some driver feedback on smoothing and joystick corrections. Overall, I like the rule. I sincerely hope that painting an OI wouldnt be against the spirit of the rules. |

Re: pic: controller case
You know, I'm not sure if the rule applies to adding "non-functional decorations," which i've been hearing so much about. Paint and stickers definitely fall under that category. Anyway, Overall i'd say it's a nice controller, but it's a bit bulky for my taste. You should check out ours in the gallery under Robots. It's the definition of minimalist, yet sleek and practical. (Is it too obvious that i'm the guy who made it?)
As a side note: If you wait until the two days after your first regional, you can do whatever you want to your controller. Don't forget about the fix-it window! |
