Re: Want to sell a robot?
I don't think we could sell any robots we have but in the past we did build a custom robot for money. What type of price range and machine are you looking for?

Re: Want to sell a robot?
how much of a completed base are you talking about? we have a laser cut base ready to go (from stack attack year) with wheels-but not electronics or motors. also, what kind of price range are talking here? getting stuff laser cut isn't cheap. write me if you are interested

Well we've been trying to sell this beauty right here. For $10,000 it's yours (kid not included). |

Re: Want to sell a robot?
My guess is that very few teams would be willing to part with robots forever... (there is some sort of weird family like attachment that grows the the hunk of metal that you spend every waking hour of six full weeks of your life with) however, I would guess that there are MANY veteran teams that would be willing to lend you one of their old robots for the season.
229 gave us one of their old prototypes, and several of the rochester teams have been very generous at lending or demoing robots for us... so I would suggest you try to borrow a bot for the season ![]() |

Re: Want to sell a robot?
do you have any certain year in mind, what do you want it to have you should be more specific. and lots of teams might not want to give up the interface its good for offseason projects.

Re: Want to sell a robot?
As a nearly related topic, has anyone ever tried to work on another teams robot with out any of the original designers around? I have.
It's near impossible. It took me hours to do something that should have taken maybe half an hour, simply because I had to spend so much time just figuring out how to correctly disassemble a gearbox, and then how to get it back together. No one ever writes user manuals for these things, and they are all very quirky. When you've worked on the machine from it's inception, you take for granted how much you already know about it, and how often you apply that knowledge. If I gave a robot to someone who already knew a thing or two about robots, they still would have a difficult time just turning it on, let alone operate it. Our robot this year could very easily self destruct if you didn't know how to operate it. So, if you give away a robot, make sure you document how it operates and how to fix it as best as possible. And how to use it safely! -Andy A. |

Re: Want to sell a robot?
What about the new VEX kits out there. I think they are close to the ones from this year.

Re: Want to sell a robot?
Thanks to all that responded. I basically posted this for my husband who is an Engineer and wanting a robot. Someone's robot that they were no longer using would be fine- he can figure anything out. I do agree with one of the previous posts that this may not be the case for a lot of people- especially when using someone else's work but in our case it would be fine. I would have to check and see what all he needs. I posted as a generality to see if anyone would consider selling.
He is wanting to work on some software and hardware ideas he has and needs a robot to do this. Maybe borrowing one would be a great alternative if we could find someone willing to let us borrow one. I know we can take home our team robot home- but not sure they would let him keep it long enough to do his work- as he does have a full-time job outside of our team. We may actually be buying the kit and building our own so he can work to his own schedule. I sure appreciate everyone's ideas and emails. I agree a lot of teams may not want to part with their robot as they become a part of their family, some teams may for funding for other things. I think each team is different. Thanks everyone. I will send more info when I find what he is looking for exactly. Diane' |

Re: Want to sell a robot?
May I suggest possibly posting your 'need' on CD-Swap?
