Data Communication

Hello,

For a school project I was given the assignment to research specific ways of data communication. When searching this topic on the Internet I was disappointed to view that no visible information was given. Any information regarding the topic and the needed information below is greatly appreciated.

Ways of Data Communication:
  1. Fiber
  2. Phone Line(Copper)56k Modem
  3. DSL
  4. Wireless
  5. Cable
Need for Each:
  1. Pros/Cons
  2. Speed-Bandwidth
  3. Range
Thanks In Advance,
Corey

Re: Data Communication

More specifically ...

How modems work

How DSL works

How VDSL works

How bluetooth works

How ethernet works

How telephones work

Which is better to use for a cable modem -- a USB connection or an Ethernet card?

Corey,

I'm not sure if you plan to include historical information about communication, but there is a great book by the late Cary Lu called "The Race for Bandwidth". It deals with communication throughout the ages, and how mankind has always been trying to increase the amount of data sent between two points. (Ever wonder why there are so many places called "Tower Hill"?) Cary authored many "readable" computer books, making technology easier to understand for the average person. I believe this was his final book.

Even if you don't plan to go into historical data, this book is a good read.

Re: Data Communication

Thank you, I was able to compile a document that included all of the necessary information.

---I'm still working on it...
