527 Championship Highlight Reel

My third (and final) FIRST* video project of the year: a recap of Team 527's first trip to the FIRST Championship Event.

Streaming Web Version (512 Kbps, 14.8 MB):
http://web.mit.edu/scolton/www/527ATL/527ATL05_512.wmv

and for anyone who can handle it,
Maybe (probably not) Streaming NTSC Version (2.1 Mbps, 57.3 MB):
http://web.mit.edu/scolton/www/527ATL/527ATL05_21.wmv

I never want to edit video again...

...until next year.

Re: 527 Championship Highlight Reel

Very nice!
You do good work.
I notice that signed 358 shirt a little more than halfway through.

Are your MIT finals over already, or should you have been studying instead of video editing?

This is the "calm before the storm:" just after homework ends but just before I need to start worrying about next week's finals.

Thanks for the comments! I guess I became obsessed with Movie Maker this year. You were correct, the 358 shirt appears in the video for exactly 0.13 seconds. I went a little crazy with the still sequence for this video - I think it's over a minute long. But I layed off the glowing Tetra effect; that took self-control. I'll have to find some way to out-do this all next year...maybe I'll shoot in 16:9 widescreen! But for now, I need to stay away from digital video for a while.

Re: 527 Championship Highlight Reel

Nice work. But sandstorm is a bit over-played, so I would have chosen a different audio track, but other than that I enjoyed it.

Re: 527 Championship Highlight Reel

I thought that it was pretty good, sandstorm wouldn't have been my first choice of music but that will be a great video to show at demos and to sponsors.

Re: 527 Championship Highlight Reel

Haha yea, I apologize for the overplayed techno. I was listening for it during the final matches in Atlanta and I didn't hear it! I thought it was some kind of rule that FIRST has to play Sandstorm and/or Heaven, and so I guess I had to fill the Sandstorm void. I won't try to defend it other than to say that the reason it is overplayed is probably because it has a FIRST "feel" to it, and outside of the FIRST world where it isn't overplayed (as much) maybe it can convey that FIRST feel.

Next year I'm going back to rock.

Wow, we think alike..

I've been working on a nationals wrap video that starts with queuing and includes stills and live action, all fitting in with the music.

I like it!

Excellent! These videos are amazing recruitment tools - for students, mentors, and sponsors. Once people see the excitement of FIRST they tend to jump on board. The best way to show them is to bring them to a competition, but if that's not feasible, video may be the next best.

You don't have to be a hollywood director to make an exciting FIRST video...the competition lends itself to that. Just plop down some music (no more techno, I guess) and some cool scenes and it will look great. I've been going through this sub-forum looking at everyone's videos...they are all so good. I'm thinking if there are so many amateur FIRST film-makers around, maybe it could be another good sub-competition like the visualization / 3D.

Anyway, good luck with your video. I'm excited to see the finished product!

Re: 527 Championship Highlight Reel

I'm pretty sure its a technical impossibility to play and Darude song to much... Or maybe thats just me and my techno loving ways. Really nice video. All you guys make me jealous of my lack of a real video camera and losing my school provided laptop (with iMovie) for the summer. Ah well, at least there's next year.
