Re: Fans Of Michael Moore
Saying that his documentries are informative and truthful is like saying that we never landed on the moon.
I wonder that that millionare is going to do with all that money he made from the F9/11 movie to help the "poor" people in this country he always talks about..... |

Re: Fans Of Michael Moore
In the recent past, a thread here about atheism effectively became, simultaneoulsy, a debate about whether we ought to be allowed to discuss atheism at all and a challenge to the atheist viewpoint.
Here, we have a thread specifically in search of "fans of Michael Moore." This is not a thread for people who dislike Michael Moore and it might do some a bit of good to recognize and respect that and keep quiet about their discontent. If you feel compelled to proselytize further about Michael Moore's work, perhaps you'd consider starting your own thread in search of like-minded people. Debate and conversation should be encouraged, of course, but it is equally important to respect and provide safe spaces for congruent individuals to share and learn from one another in anticipation of the inevitable onslaught of ideas and views in opposition to their own. I liked "Bowling for Columbine" but detested "Fahrenheit 9/11" and can understand why many would not like Moore's brand of 'documentary,' just as I can understand why some may not feel that atheism is a valid theology. What I am yet to understand is why those people can't afford even the slightest modicum of respect for those seeking others like themselves and, instead, must try to satiate an unceasing need to espouse their own contradictory, unsolicited views. |

I am not sure what the quotation marks around poor were supposed to signify, but I am hoping not a disdain for there actually being poor people who need help. There are actually quite a few poor people in this country. I completely agree that Mr. Moore's movies are not balanced and objective. They are editorials. This does not necessarily mean they are not also documentaries. Being a documentary just means presenting facts. There is really nothing about making a documentary that requires objectivity. In fact many if not most documentaries are attempts to prove a point and are inherently editorial in nature. I don't particularly care for his style of political persuasion, though I do think he has a lot of talent for humor and makes movies that people like to watch. If you are going to use humor to "go for the jugular" I think satire is better medium. |
