A beta of the
Google toolbar for Firefox has been released. (you must go to the download page with Firefox to get the Firefox download.)
My review of it: (primarily compared with the
Googlebar)
Pros:
- Smaller icons than the Googlebar
- Comes with the many of the features the Googlebar lacks, such as SpellCheck and WordTranslator.
Cons:
- Doesn't have the show/hide keyboard shortcut Googlebar does. (Ctrl-F8)
- The search box doesn't resize to fit your browser window automatically. (Can be done manually, but if you make it big then resize your window, it just chops stuff off.)
- No ability to add seperators between buttons (and non builtin), so it looks a little crowded.
- It lacks voting buttons for page rank... odd.
- You don't have nearly the same button control (what appears) as the Googlebar.
Overall, however, I like it. Once they give it a few more features and get it out of beta, it'll be great! SpellCheck and the WordTranslator alone is worth it.
