Served Raw Chicken at Burger King.

Just thought I would like to share this story. Its available with pictures in my blog- http://50lbslater.com/blog/?p=32

You can also digg it here

I have eaten some pretty gross things in my life, but yesterday’s afternoon snack topped the list. I was in a hurry, I had to drop off my girlfriend then race over to class. I knew that I would never have enough time to get dinner so I stopped at the ol’ BK lounge for a quick bite. I drove up to the drive though and ordered a friend chicken sandwich, fries and a Dr. Pepper.

I drove off happy with my 1,000 calorie dinner. I got on the Highway and unwrapped my burger, I dug in… I noticed it tasted a little bit funny, but I had never eaten one of these sandwiches before so I kept going. I felt something gooshy in my mouth, so I pulled back and looked at my chicken…. IT WAS RAW! Not just a little pink. IT WAS RAW. I pulled off the highway and took some pictures with my camera phone… as evidence

I showed up at BK, and asked to talk to the manager. A guy with bad dental work came over and started talking to me about it. I asked to file an incident report, he disapeared back into the “kitchen”. 5min later her came back and said he could not find any forms and to come back in an hour.

I came back in a hour to be greeted by his supervisor, she was very nice and took 100% responsibility. She wrote down what happened and gave my money back.

I dont plan on taking any action against BK right now, I just will never buy from them again. I thought I would share my story.

Re: Served Raw Chicken at Burger King.

The local BK here used to be top quality. But the last half dozen times the order has been wrong. Every darn time. Last time, we complained and they finally offered to refund the whole $15 order. It's like, how hard can it be to listen to the customer's order, repeat it back to them, make it, and check it? Some of the people working in these places are just plain careless.

Even in the local hardware stores. The quality of service everywhere is going downhill like a soapbox derby racer. There are so many places I go and say to myself "man, if I was manager here it would be SOOO much better. Customers would see the best dang service this place has ever had"

Seriously, where has quality in service and care in some jobs gone?
And telling you they can't help you now but come back in an hour? Totally wrong. The customer is always right, and the customer never is made to wait. At the least, they should refunded you right then and doused you in freebie coupons.

One experience I had was when I had my truck into the dealership for repair and I got home and thought I'd check the lug nuts just for the fun of it. About 13 out of 20 were loose to the point I could easily put up to another 1/4 of a turn into them with my box wrench. These idiots could have gotten me killed had a wheel fallen off and my truck rolled over. This was a dealer service department with factory trained "professionals" too.

Re: Served Raw Chicken at Burger King.

Some spaced-out burger-flipper blew it, or decided to have his way with you. Agreed, it's not too appetizing, but I don't know if you can honestly blame the restaurant chain—if they're anything like McDonalds or KFC, they have rather involved procedures for preparing food, so that it turns out exactly the same, all of the time. Someone didn't follow the procedure, and you got a mouthful of soggy pink flesh as a result.

You got your money back, got an apology, and in the unlikely event that something goes medically wrong with you, you've identified someone with whom you can discuss further compensation. That really seems quite sufficient; boycotting Burger King isn't going to do any good (except reducing the number of 1000-calorie meals that you are tempted to buy). I suppose you might stay away from that restaurant in particular, if you have serious concerns about the staff—but a whole chain? That's overkill.

You really can't blame the chain. Burger King's (and others) are independantly owned and operated. The people who open up these places bought into the franchise. Like Tristan said, they have involved procedures and someone wasn't on the ball with your order.

Don't only file the complaint locally, but go online and file it with the main office. Franchised restaurants have standards of operation for the local restaurants, and the main office has more influence on them than a single customer. BK doesn't accept email, but here is their contact page:

http://www.bk.com/CompanyInfo/contact_us.aspx

Start with the Customer Relations phone number. You might be surprised at the quickness with which the local manager/owner will be trying to contact you to personally apologize.

Re: Served Raw Chicken at Burger King.

normally its the other way around ... way too cooked....
its awful in cambridge because 99% of the staff are (no offense intended) chinese or japanese students, and they don't speak much english. Theres usually one guy (manager or supervisor) who isn't foreign and has to deal with hell (seriously if you saw some of it you would feel sorry)

Dont worry though, Dr Pepper is stronger than Listerene! :^)

Re: Served Raw Chicken at Burger King.

Yes staff at restaurants are rather careless, on the way home from Ramp Riot about 10 people from team 25 stopped at Friendlys to get some food. We noticed there was a few people in front of us so we just relaxed and waited. They didn’t even care to put our name on the list until we where there for 8 minutes. We played the claw machine a few times… didn’t win anything… stupid piece of junk… Anyway after 15 mins we decided just to leave and go to a fast food place. They just turned down about $75 - $100+ in one group. We then just went to Wendys… Good food.

Re: Served Raw Chicken at Burger King.

As to the raw chicken, well that's probably just someone not paying attention in the kitchen. To whomever was talking about the order not being correct, welcome to outsourcing. Coporate America has found out it is cheaper to have someone in India listen to your order, type it on a computer screen and send it back to the store. And yes, this is true.

Re: Served Raw Chicken at Burger King.

That's just raunchy, dude. I would be careful as to what I order from there if I were you...

What bothers me about fast food is that they don't care at all. They make your order wrong like 80% of the time and sometimes they're extremely rude and unenthusiastic. If I worked there, I would turn the place completely around (if any of you know me personally, you don't doubt me). I'm cautious these days and it's better to be there inside while they make it so you can kinda' see what they're doing, and whether or not they include everything you ordered. I try to go inside as much as possible.

Re: Served Raw Chicken at Burger King.

there is a definate balance in fast food

you want your food handed to you within 60 seconds

but you want it to be excellent, and exactly what you asked for

served up by people making minumum wage so its as cheap as possible.

Clearly the raw chicken was a mistake, but in general, if you want really good food and excellent service, you will have to pay more to get it (at a nice sit down resturant).

I think you might underestimate human stupidity.

I've worked on two occasions at Sonic Drive-In. Most of that time was spent in the drive-thru. Ask anyone, I know how to work that headset. And virtually every day I worked the drive-thru, I would come home and collapse. Why? People that come through fast-food drive-thrus drain the life out of me. Call it inability to read the menu, the assumption that tater tots cost extra, or just a hunch that I'm supposed to read minds, but there is something about that job that will make even the peppiest person drag themselves to the car at the end of the day. (As a result, I'm willing to give quite a bit of latitude to fast-food workers that show that fire for their job, or even the embers of such a fire.)

What's a person to do? I vote with my dollars. Take Carolina Dining as an example. In my year and a half on campus, I've figured out which eateries offer good service and good food. I've had good luck with Taco Bell, Einstein Bros. Bagels, and Gibbes Court, so do you know where the sweeping majority of my meal plan swipes are logged? Taco Bell, Einstein Bros., and Gibbes Court.

Granted, whereever I go, Sodexho gets my money. However, dealing with their management over Preston Dining (which, since we have to eat there for dinner, we can't vote with dollars over) has shown me that they still want their locations to get as much business as they can. And believe it or not, the locations with sales get improved (Einstein Bros. is getting renovated over break to increase its production capacity), while those that don't do as well tend to, as they put it, "go away." (There was a Cinnabon down on the first floor of the Russell House, but it was only getting a few dollars a day after its first semester. It's now a sub place.)
