Re: UFH: Amanda Morrison
Oh my, this sure has been an UFH winner that I have been waiting for, for a long long time. Amanda Morrison has more passion for this program and desire for giving back to the students to allow them to have a much better life than anybody I know.
I've got many many wonderful stories about Amanda (some of which I can not post on here without fear of losing an arm), but one of my favorites has to be the first time I met her. It was at the 2003 IRI and Amanda and her team had come in with what looked like a bunch of metal. Andy Baker had told me there would be this girl and some kids who may need help with getting their robot together. Several times he asked me if I had spoken with her yet, and I said I had been busy but in reality I didn't really feel like going over there to try to help some random girl who I didn't care about. So I grabbed Clark Gilbert and we went over there to see if they needed any help with anything. I introduced myself and we offered tools and kids to help if needed. Amanda then shook my hand, didn't look at me and quickly and extremely quietly and shyly said "Hi my name is Amanda Morrison" then hurridly scurried back into the corner where they were working. All I thought was that this girl was REALLY weird and kinda freaky, little did I know this same girl would soon become somebody I looked up to and would refer to me as her "right hand man." Seeing first hand what Amanda continues to do in FIRST is one big reason why I still have the drive to give back to all of those students who may have not had the opportunities like myself. For you young ladies in FIRST who want to look up to someone, Amanda is the one! She works hard and strives for perfection and doing what is best for all. She sure has done wonders keeping my butt out of trouble (at least not has much trouble as I could be in) and making sure I don't do something stupid. Amanda, congratulations. You are my Unsung FIRST Hero. ![]() |

Great job Amanda and congratulations for all you've done to contribute to this program and community!
I've never had a chance to meet you personally till the Rochester Ruckus and I'm glad I had the chance to hang with you. We'll run into each other again I'm sure but once again many thanks for your support from all of us here in Rochester, NY. Ellery |

Re: UFH: Amanda Morrison
I have to admit I was completely humbled by the amount of people who have posted in this thread and said such wonderful and nice things. I can't believe I've been in FIRST for this long... every year passes so quickly and I can't believe it's already almost Kickoff again. Although it took me a little while to find my niche in the program, every moment spent has been one great memory after another.
I can't really fathom the great FIRST community that I have befriended and had the opportunity to work with over the past three years. I am astounded by the people I have met - their actions, successes, and friendship. In this thread alone, there are students whom I have talked with and whose papers I have edited, a Boston song reworded, about a thousand inside jokes with each of you, a couple embarrassing stories, and dozens of names that bring a smile, a handshake, or a memory to mind. Especially flattering were those that I haven't yet met, or even previously spoken with. I hope to run into you in the future, and live up to your expectations. I can't wait to see all of you in the upcoming season. Many of your entries brought me to tears multiple times, and now is one of them. Einstein once said that the only way to escape the personal corruption of praise is to go on working. I can't thank all of you enough, so from now on I will try to show my immense gratitude in actions and hard work, and remind you what great mentors, heroes, and friends you have been to me over the years. Your mentor, student, dance partner, college and career counselor, editor, human player, organizer, girlfriend, soccer mom, candygiver, secretary, sister, halloween costume, spellchecker, left hand, but most of all--friend, Amanda Last edited by Amanda Morrison : 30-11-2005 at 23:37. |

Re: UFH: Amanda Morrison
Unfortunately I haven't been around the chief much lately, but this thread requires a response.
I don't think that there would be an UFH without Amanda. The work and dedication she has to FIRST is nothing short of astounding. Congratulations, you've had this one coming for a while now. |
