Yes! Finally someone who gets it.

But if an african-american rapper is allowed to use the N-word, and a kid in the south gets !Arrested! for wearing a shirt with a Confederate flag on it, you know there's something wrong. I'm against censorship, and against limited any rght in the Constitution, esp. the first 10, but I also understand that censorship helps protect children from hearing and seeing things that are inappropriate to their age.

That African-Amricans can use words freely that Caucasian people get labeled as racist for using, is a real blight on the first amendment. The Constitution is for everyone, not just minorities.

Good post, Wetzel. You're not a hopeless idealist, just someone who believes in the foundations laid down by the founders of this country.

Just for the record, I'm not entirely anti-rap, what people do with their private lives is none of my business, nor is it anyone else's. But especailly in New England, there is a definite shift in race relations. There are things certain people can say that I can't, because I'm white, and part of the "majority"

Maybe folks of all colors would get along better if the issue was'nt raised at every traffic ticket and police shooting. People wear signs, and move to take down Confedrate flags because they don't agree with what they think it means, it get tiresome to watch, and of course, I can't do a thing to help protect the first amendment without being labeled as a confederate and a racist.

Of course, if the protest was to take down pictures of Malcom X, it would be labeled as racist by the media: clear violation of 1st amendment.

Live and let live, I say, and let the First Amendment carry on, without gagging minorities or majorities. Although watching what you say may be the responsible thing to do, knowing your target audience.

Wow that was a ramble. I'm no longer replying to this thread. anyone wanting to debate can IM or PM me. It is'nt worth the time to post the issue back and forth. No one is really going to give in, it being a largely philosophical arguement over the 1st Amendment.

Bye!

Alright, so this is maybe my last post in this thread.. i say maybe cause I'm hopelessly argumentitive...
here we go... First, I have to raise the issue that a lot of you have to remember, we're not all from the US.. it's great to reference to US stuff, but i know I personally don't get some of it. Next, I'm not sure, nor am I accusing anyone of it, but I feel that my big long long post has been attacked.. let me clairify... The point was not to offend everyone, which I might have accidently done... it was to raise questions. We all feel the way we feel and I hoped that maybe if I raised some questions in your minds you may see the other side of the fence. I may be a lil jaded, but it has to do with the people I'v met, and how rap has seemed to affet them. I know this one guy, before he dressed that way, walked the walk and talked the talk, he was a ton of fun to hang around with, but now you can see, he's changed, and everything he does has been slanted. When you walk by people that are into the whole rap culture everyday on your way to class and hear the talk everyday, it gets on your nerves a bit. But again, this is all personal opinion. I mean, do what you want, but, A) dont force me to be all into it. B) don't hurt anyone else or yourself doing it. C)don't propetuate the sterotype....
That's what really bugs me, people that are all oh, I'm oppressed, everyone thinks it's like this with me.. and then they do it, or they do it to 'show them' if you keep the cycle going... ugh! people!

My point of the day: I personally don't like rap, maybe it's how it's done, maybe it's the content, maybe it's just me... but am I a bad person for saying that I really can't stand listening to a genre of music? I hope not.... I mean, look at the amount of people that can't stand country... are they all bad - I don't like country either...meh.. I think I covered it all... I hope...
*sigh*
*hugz to all as alwayz*

I was going to make this post a while back when this thread started, i didnt think it was that important then but after reading this all I think you all shoud read this anyay.

I love rock, even back in like 3rd grade when every kid listened to rap and hiphop i loved my rock. And for a long time i thought all hip-hop and rap was horrid. Then recently the underground hip-hop scene has come out to me. If anyone has hear Gorillaz then you have heard in some sense underground. They took some of the best underground hip hop people and made an album. All of you should check ou things that Dan The automator has produced. He is a musical genious. Kool Keith is an ok rapper hes got some great prducing on his albums. Also if you want to hear what many people call the best hip-hop album of all time check out Deltron 3030. Go to http://www.75ark.com or http://www.stonesthrow.com and check out some of the music. These are underground labels and you can see some of the music.

I rember someone said that LL cool J did a unplugged show. if you are interested in hip hop with instruments check out yesterdays new quintet and The roots. The roots backed up whoever that rap artist is who had the unplugged. They all play instruments and then have an emcee up front.

Another thing with underground hip hop/rap is that there isnt so much rage in the music. They are making music and rarely say the N word. They dont cuss that often. They make music that they want to be heard so they keep it clean. Rarely do you see a warning label on a good underground record. Thats why gorrilaz did so well.

I belive that we have heard from both sides now...
In conclusion- we don't exactly fully understand the others in our society... maybe we arn't supposed to...

I say that we kill this thread before anymore feelings get hurt, because I'm pretty sure that eveyone's have, including mine...

Okay? No one reply to this... we shall now let this thread go to its grave... later all.

Yes, threads do slip through the cracks.... this being one of them.

I think this discussion went to places it probably shouldn't have, for being on a robotics website. (chit-chat forum or no chit-chat forum).

Thanks for not getting too out of hand.
