CAD files for Vex robots

Files are available from the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Academy (http://www-education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/..._cad/index.htm) in SolidWorks 2004 and Inventor 9.0 formats, as well as from VexLabs (http://www.vexcad.com/) in Inventor 10 and STEP formats.

Re: CAD files for Vex robots

Thanks, the link to Carnegie Mellon was great. They have all the kit parts.

Does anyone know where we can get CAD models for Vex accessories like the optical shaft encoders, and the ultrasonic sensors?

Thanks! We're trying to use vex to learn autodesk this summer.

Re: CAD files for Vex robots

Can anyone convert the files to .dwx, dwg, or .dwf. I can't afford inventor or solidworks and I want the files for home use on a free CAD program.

Thank you millions for that - I've been making the parts in my spare time, but the Carnegie Mellon link helped a lot.

I'd be interested in those too. I'm using TurboCAD 12, which doesn't seem to be able to import any of the formats provided by the above-mentioned sites.

Thumbs up New Vex Files Coming

Here is the latest thing I have modeled for VEX. This is a complete "square bot" without the wires.

That's beautiful. What CAD software are you using?

The entire thing was modeled in Inventor 10. I have been working on the parts for a while for Autodesk.

No, it doesn't. That's for ANSYS, which is a thermal simulation package. It doesn't read standard 3-D files, and outputs useless (for our purposes) 2-D and 3-D files. The closest it comes is Parasolid (ACIS) files, but it can't even import them, only export.

I can't do that conversion for you, but I've got something else that might be of use. Go to hobbyvex.org/CAD/index.htm for downloads and instructions on how to use MLCAD with Vex parts. Most of the starter kit parts are there now and more will be coming as I get them ready. The bonus of using MLCAD is that it's free and it can be used to generate building instructions. I'm hoping to have my first complete model ready to post on HobbyVex soon along with preliminary building instructions.

I have completed a few more models. They are coming to a download site near you. Here is a sneak peek.
