Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
Our high school gets the award for being the most liberal HS. (if you find a more liberal one, let me know) In any given classroom there are literally only a couple of conservative people. But then again, Ithaca is a very liberal city in a surrounded by very conservative towns on all sides.
"Ithaca is 10 sq. miles surrounded by reality" -so true |

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
We are the oldest school in our county. We have a cricket team. We have just about the worst Lacrosse team in the state of GA but it is the best in our schools history. We went from having our best baseball team ever last year to having our worse only because it is all sophmores.
We had the best RB in the state and still only went 2-8 in football this year. We got 6 of our wins revoked 3 years ago for having a 21 year old on our team who only warmed the bench. Every year we initiate our frosh by soaking them with water guns during our 1st peprally and we had our last years robots with a water compressor last year and it had an arm that leaned forward an could get to like 12 ft high and we got it to be able to soak some of the freshmen down. Our ROTC is the 2nd best in the state. Our drumline is the 2nd in the state also. And our principal goes out in his car to find people to make sure that all the jr's take their graduatin tests. Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
I think one of the great things about Perry Meridian High School is that there are so many extracurricular clubs and sports teams. If you can't find an activity to join, then you're not looking. Our wrestling team is a perenial powerhouse and we also do pretty well in our other sports. I also love how many scheduling options we have with tons of different classes such as Project Lead the Way. In fact, I wish we could have another period added on to the school day so I could take classes like programming.

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
My school is extremely non-traditional.
-It's a technology school (1:1 Student to PC ratio) -We get our own school email and all of our assignments are on Lotus Notes databases. -Everything is project-based. -About 100 students per grade -6 more graduation requirements in addition to California standards -We have no music or sports programs, but we're allowed to do them at other schools in town. -There are several Tech High replicas throughout the nation -Important people come for student-led tours of the school -We've been nominated to be one of the top 25 schools in the Nation. ![]() Edit: It's New Technology High School in Napa, CA, by the way. www.newtechhigh.org |

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
ok my school, probably is in the weirdest and best 5% of all high schools, we do a LOT of weird stuff:
-you are constantly reminded of the high SAT expectations, average on the old SATs was some crazy number like 1270, and its going up -because we are a "blue ribbon school of excellence" your science classes are never in the same order as anyone else's, Freshman take Physics, Sophs take Chem, and Juniors take Bio -most students are upset with a 98% on an exam -tables spin the bottle at lunch to see who throws out the trash <-- LOTS OF FUN -Our history teacher wrote our textbooks -the "whole" school has a xanga and an ipod, fine only 90% -We are number 1 in the world in AP Art History -90% of students take an AP class -asians have crushed the european's hopes of every becoming valedictorian -a certain administrator loves to hear the sound of his own voice and the intercom is his favorite toy -while walking out to your history trailer sawdust often blows on your head...no it's not snow -the average senior car is a BMW or a Lexus -Dungeons and Dragons has a cult following, same with Stairway to Heaven -At school dances everyone sings Bohemian Rapesody -half of the graduating class will go to Rutgers -You know at least 15 people going to an Ivy League College when they graduate -fights erupt between grades during Spirit Week, between the boy powder puff cheerleading squads There is a ton more, but thats just how weird we are. |

Half the lights don't work No air condisioning The heat works during the summer - only The Sinks in the bathrooms don't work The lockers don't close The computers are gutted |

Our school is the second oldest school in the country, we are one of the best schools in the country, we are a fully academic school and you need a 90 or above in Middle school to get in. We also have electron microscopes, i think thats pretty cool. Our sports teams are the best in the city and we are very diverse. The only downsize is that the school exclusivly uses Crapintosh Computers, they are not compatible with any of the software from FIRST.
Also, to the all girls school, up the block from us is Philadelphia High School for Girls, another all girls school. |

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
We were basketball 5A statechamps this year for Georgia.
We have 2 facilities named after people who still work there. McDonald Baseball field. Doug Liscomb Gym. Our magnet program is one of the best in the country and is ranked 3rd for SAT prep behind the amazing Thomas Jefferson school and some other one. |

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
Highest Ranking by State of Ohio - "Excellent"
Also Ranked a United States "Blue Ribbon School" Our school is a preengineering high school. Our classes include things like electronics(single/three phase AC + DC), CAD, CAM, machining(works well when you need to build a first robot ), metal fabrication, fluid power, PLC programming and ladder logic, and I believe they are currently working on expanding our plastics facilities so we can learn more about that(most likely to be finished after I graduate ). We are a small school with around 120 people which allows us a lot of activities that other schools can't have. Many of our classes have integrated activities, like writing reports in English about OSHA standards or creating parts for math for Statistical Process Control. The curriculum culminates in your senior year with your senior project. Senior projects this year included as automated safety glasses mold/injector and an automated walking quadruped(can't wait to see this thing work) along with several projects that were actually assigned by several sponsoring companies and will actually be used there when they are finished. Needless to say FIRST is a competition that is right up our alley . |

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
Well this fact is more to say about the town that the school is in, which the school is named after.
Along time ago the founder of the town was named ARAD. When they made the decision to name the town after ARAD. Well...... someone may a mistake and name the town as ARAB (what a mistake) This means if you do talk like a southern, you mite think we live in the middle east. But we live in good old Heart of Dixie ! ! To say ARAB make a B sounds and the end like "bu" ARA"bu" Special HUH |

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to
How did I miss this thread?
Alright, alright...something special about Irmo High School. (a slew of possibilities come through his mind, not unlike Dave Lavery when Heidi's the caption contest subject) Well, we were in the news around 1997-98 (or so) because the Indigo Girls were going to stage a concert in our gym, followed by an interview with The Stinger (the student newspaper). I'm fuzzy on the details, but apparently some parents got steamed (the Indigo Girls are lesbian), complained to the principal, and he cancelled the show. (They later performed a free show for high schoolers off-campus.) Also, we have a freaking awesome AFJROTC unit. They've won the Sword of Excellence (think Chairman's, but for AFJROTC units in South Carolina) a few times. And their deputy group commander last spring wasn't too bad, either. ![]() (True story: Last night, I went on a random Wal-Mart run with a friend of a friend. We were there, headed toward the checkout, and I bumped into the instructor, who I recently listed as a reference on a job application. He had some time doing it, though--he couldn't remember if "irresponsible" was spelled with one R or two. Then again, he says that to all the cadets--to the point that "irresponsible" is bookmarked in the dictionary in the room. I got the job, too.) |
