Question Chairman's Essay

Is this what we are supposed to right in the chairman's award essay??

"1. How strongly does the submission document the impact FIRST has on the learning experience of
the students, school curriculum, engineers, and/or community?

2. Has the team explained/demonstrated why/how it should be a role model for other FIRST teams to
emulate?

3. How well has the team communicated its excitement and impact within the entire school,
community, and beyond (state/nation) through participation in FIRST?

4. Has the team documented an innovative way to spread the FIRST message?

5. How strong of a year-round team partnership effort is reflected? (You can define partnership in
many ways, including: the partnership among the team’s students/corporate sponsor/engineers;
school/university sponsor/engineers; students/adults; community/team)

6. As a whole, does the content of the documentation exemplify the true meaning of FIRST?
Your Chairman’s Award submission should include documentation for all the above factors."

Re: Chairman's Essay

That's basically what you should write about. Feel free to add more stuff if it interests the judges. The Chairmans award is about your teams accomplishments in FIRST.

Re: Chairman's Essay

To add, you don't exactly have to make it a formal essay. In 2004, we made ours resemble newsletter-style, and the next year, we wrote as if we were composing e-mails to other people.

Re: Chairman's Essay

The judges will be looking for evidence of how you are doing in all of those areas. Some teams do it question and answer style, some a regular essay, there are lots of styles. Remember be complete and accurate.

Once you are done writing and editing, ask some people who are familiar with FIRST to proof read it. See if it is clear to them. Then, before you submit it, ask an engish teacher to proofread it for you for grammar, punctuation, etc.

Then, cut and paste into a text editor, recheck the formatting and be sure you did not lose any characters or create wierd spacing when going from word processor (like Word) into the text file. After you have done all this, then do a final cut and paste into the FIRST submittal page.

It is a lot of work, but you end up with a great document that you can use throughout the season.
