If FIRST does that, I will be very, very mad. The coolest designs tend to be the drive train. I think there are much better ways to deal with tearing carpet. FIRST would be nearly eliminating the robot diversity in drive. Over the next couple of years, drive systems would almost start becoming generic (minus gearing and such). The variety of allowable parts what keeps teams striving for more than just the standard wheelchair wheel design and advancing to really high levels.
Making the drive generic would make the robots basically generic too. Eliminating custom wheels and such eliminates an entire plane of robot designs and innovation. That would be very bad and it would make me very mad. I do not like this Sam I Am... I do not like drive restrictions and ham... ~Hubicki~ |
