Re: pic: Crabstyle v2
Wow that looks really solid, maybe a bit too solid
. How beefy is it? looks like you wouldn't have much weight to work with after the solid bottom frame. |

Re: pic: Crabstyle v2
Surprisingly, the whole frame and crab modules weigh 40 pounds.

Re: pic: Crabstyle v2
My goodness, wow, geez, um, hrrm. Wow. That's got to be a welder's worst nightmare.
Is there going to be anything on top of it? Is FIRST raising the weight limit? I think you've definitely got the best of the best in terms of strength but the weight on that has got to be quite high. Perhaps tone it down a bit. More is not always merrier in this scenario. EDIT: Saw the above post. Only 40 lbs? Are you sure material properties are set correctly? Well, on second thought, the wall thickness is only 2mm. Just seems a but too complicated to me though Nice work on the model though. It is clear that must have taken some considerable time. |

Re: pic: Crabstyle v2
How much would it weigh including the transmissions you are planning on using, chain, motors?

Re: pic: Crabstyle v2
About the welding, I'm thinking of going to item....then I'll of course tone it down. Unless we get some super crazy good welder, item is my best friend.
Yes, I was having fun in frame generator. I think that 1/3 of your weight should go to chassis and drivetrain anyways. |

Re: pic: Crabstyle v2
What motors will you be using to turn the modules?
I've heard some good and bad stuff about using the globe. |

Re: pic: Crabstyle v2
I like the solid design, except for the weight factor. Have you included chains, steering motors, bolts, and sensors into that weight?
As well as that, have you included the factor of mounting sensors? ie. Pot for turning, optical for speed, and so on... You really do need those for a crab drive, as we discovered when we made one for triple play. |

Re: pic: Crabstyle v2
So i redesigned the Frame and saved four pounds. I guess I'm going with the window motors for the steering and the plastic chain hammond used for streering their crab drives. I'm guessing the streering mechanism will be abouth 5 pounds. Dont know until I make it, but thats my guess right now. I've already got spots for sensors, and lots of them. Otherwise, I've accounted for everything.
P.S. Im working on an electronics board. Last edited by Joe_Widen : 08-07-2006 at 15:07. |
