Snakes on a Plane

Has anyone seen this advertisement for this film? At first I Thought it was a joke. Its even funnier when i found out that this film is for real. How is that going to be and interesting plot for 2 hours? I give it a week before it is a total flop and they pull it out of theaters.

My friends and are planning on going opening night with rubber snakes and throw them around while shouting "snakes in a movie theater! snakes in a movie theater!" Then sit back and watch and rip apart the film.

I don't get why people think is so funny. I think it's a very innovative and creative idea and it will define movie making for the rest of our lives.

Just think if all the classics had been released after this "innovative" way to name a movie was thought of.

ET would be "Alien needs a friend or A home"

Titanic would be "Boat in the water which sinks"

The Matrix would be "Alternate world goes crazy"

Star Wars would be.. well.. "Star Wars" still I guess.. LOL

With this movie, I swear, if anyone even thinks of asking what it is about in my presence, I am gonna smack them.

And, about this movie, I'm surprised this is the first time it was mentioned here on CD. The internet hype over this movie has been so large, it had fan sites even before it was finished being filmed.

Stick Samuel L. Jackson on a plane, and throw in some snakes, and apparently you have a cult phenomenon. Weird.

Speaking of Samuel L. Jackson, Pulp Fiction would be named "Angry People In A Movie With No Point Which Doesn't Have A Beginning Or Ending" - Directed By Quentin Tarentino

Re: Snakes on a Plane

I guess I just ... don't get it. What's all the hype about? From what I've seen, the plot looks pretty boring. I don't see anything really "innovative" about it.

No, no, no. It would clearly be "Stories of Angry Gangsters Told Using Excellent Dialog (So You Really Have to Pay Attention to What the Actors Say, Not Necessarily What They Do). PS: Some Parts are Lengthy but Bear with Us 'Cause They're Important.".

Re: Snakes on a Plane

Samuel L. Jackson basically forced the movie execs to keep the "literal" title, saying he wouldn't do the movie if they changed it to "Venom at 50,000 Feet" or some other such boring nonsense.

This is a movie Sam doesn't want you to take seriously.

Re: Snakes on a Plane

For a little while I thought the movie was a hoax, cause I hadn't heard anything about it for a while. Then I saw commercials on for it TV again.
People seem to be saying that it will be so ridiculous and and poorly done, that it will be a cult hit. I don't think anyone is taking this movie seriously. I mean, come on, a boa with fangs?

I think it sounds hilarious, you'd probably need to do it before the movie starts (before the previews too, or no one would be able to hear you), or after the movie (that way they can't kick you out and make you miss the movie ).
I don't think you should heckle the movie while it's playing though, just laugh along with everyone else at it's awesome badness.

Re: Snakes on a Plane

I was so waiting for this thread to be started.

I found out about this movie back around March/April, and I'm so excited about it. It's amazing the way teh intarwebs can affect a movie. Once someone on the internets found out about the movie, they started the whole, "I want these motherf------ snakes off my motherf----- plane!" which was, of course, a snark on Samuel L. Jackson's role in Pulp Fiction. When they got back together to reshoot some scenes, they also added a scene where Sam's character actually yells that.

I definitely cannot wait until it comes out, though. It's going to be such a bad movie that it'll definitely be worth going to. And Peter...I like your idea.

RHPS is 20 years old that people have seen many times before with an understanding. Snakes On A Plane is a new release movie. There is a major difference between the two.

That said, the callbacks for RHPS have made it into an entirely different movie going experience. If you haven't seen it with a cast, you should at some point in your life go see it.

Re: Snakes on a Plane

This is one movie I am looking forward to seeing just because it looks so incredibly ridiculous and Samuel L. Jackson is gonna kick some... snakes? The trailer and concept itself seems like one of those bad old Sci-Fi B movies that they rip on Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

Re: Snakes on a Plane

I still say Chinese movies based on Ancient China are the best.

And if you haven't seen "House of Flying Daggers" you have so missed out.

"Snakes on a Plane" sounds like one of those frustrating movies, where you become restless, after 5 minutes. As for your idea...I agree with Matt. Just make sure that if you really want to do it, then do it before even the previews begin. After that, let the rest of the people watch the movie. Because the movie will most likely be more annoying, and hence make you funnier . And remember, you are giving your money away. To the horrible movie, really.

For anyone who goes, enjoy .

Re: Snakes on a Plane

I have been waiting for this movie to come out ever since I first heard about it back in February (when Wired magazine named it the "Worst Movie of 2006" - which is particularly prescient, when you consider that at the time of publication 2006 had not even started yet). I have been following the net parodies of the trailer with glee (some of my favorites are here, here and here - to see more, just check out YouTube or iFilm, and do a search on "Snakes On A Plane").

If you are wondering if you should go and see this movie or not, then let me suggest a few simple litmus tests to determine if you have the appropriate psychological appreciation for such a cinematic production:

If you were able to actually keep paying attention to Plan 9 From Outer Space for more than the first seven minutes of the film, then Snakes On A Plane is for you.

If you scoff at episodes of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 because they are not creative enough in their abuse of the original lame plots, then this is a film you will love.

If you understand that Peter's suggestion about bringing rubber snakes to the movie and crying out "snakes in a movie theatre!!!" is exactly the right thing to do, then you need to grab a handfull of rubber cobras, and prepare to be entertained.

If you recognize the film "Eegah!" as one of the truly outstanding highlights of Richard Kiel's illustrious career, then Snakes On A Plane is right up your proverbial alley.

If you show up at a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with a bag full of toast and dressed in white boxers and t-shirt, then we can count on where you will be spending every Friday night for the next 10 years - at the midnight screenings of Snakes On A Plane.

If you liked Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes, then just give up now - get your sleeping bag and five bags of Tostitos, and go camp out right now so you will be first in line to get your tickets for the opening show of Snakes On A Plane.

If you go to this movie expecting to see a cinematic work of art, then expect to be surprised (and in the distinct minority).

If you go to this movie expecting the audience to remain totally silent and never voice their approval of the overwhelming badness of this film, then you need to go off in the corner and join those six other people that just don't have a clue.

-dave

I thought it was the highlight of Archie Hall Jr's career myself, but hey, MST3K is right up my ally, so I guess Snakes on a Plane isn't for me.

I personally skipped the white boxers, and t-shirt myself, but I did throw the playing cards, and toast, and used the other things in my "bag of "stuff"" at the show when required.

Horray for midnight showings (Saturdays) at Harvard Square in Boston.
(They still run there I think - Check it out if you are ever in Boston. Lowes Theater - Harvard Square.)
