Wouldn't it be fun to beat the masters?

How sweet would it be if Dean Kamen, Woodie Flowers, etc. all built their own robots, and participated in events themselves? Not to say that they would be able to choose their own alliance, or be chosen for an alliance, but rather, have the winning alliance play them at (quite literally) their own game.

Re: Wouldn't it be fun to beat the masters?

I must admit that I would like to see what Dean might field if he put some serious engineering muscle into a game. I'm floored by some of the designs put out by teams, but just to have an exihibition of a professionally built 'bot would be impressive.

But that'd kinda take the fun out of it eh?

Wouldn't the advantage be theirs because they know what the challenge is going to be a long time before we do? Then again, some teams come up with very unusual designs...

Knowing the game gives SOME advantages, but they won't necessarily know which strategies will dominate until it's actually played.

Would be interesting to see them each make there own robot. And then play against each other at the Championships.

Dave...? Are you listening?

I would love to see them build a robot atleast for demonstration purposes.

The main question is, what color would the robots be?

yellow of course. Green is taken by the light, red and blue are taken by the teams...

dave's hints could also be a specific part on his robot
that would be fun

I'm a little puzzled - no one person builds a robot so how would this work?

Well, Dean has a nice little team he calls Deka Research and Development Corp. Paul Gudonis has an impressive record as an administrator and business leader; he could put together a competitive team, too.

But Woodie is da man. All he would need to do is post a flyer at MIT, and students would be clamoring and climbing over each other to join his team, and the one he chose would work 24/7 to build the best 'bot anyone has ever seen. Woodie's team would own those other guys.

Re: Wouldn't it be fun to beat the masters?

back in...uhm 2004 or 2003 there was a team of one student who, funded, designed, built, programed, drove, operated, and coached his own robot. then the next year i think he had like 11 students and 1 mentor

Re: Wouldn't it be fun to beat the masters?

haha, maybe give positions to the major sponsors... then they can have their own pool.

I think i would also like to see this happen because Dean always seems to say "We hope we've designed a good enough game for you", but he never really knows, does he? Besides, F.I.R.S.T. is really about experience... and has he experienced the actual (not the workplace its modelled after) 6-week build season the students have?
