578's FIRST Promo Videos

Hi everyone,

Our team has developed a number of promotional films through out the summer we were wondering which one was the best?

1.) Promotional Video 1
This video shows pretty much everything.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...69909199096341

2.) "It's the robotics team...I Think"
This is basically the clip we got from the Local TV station unedited of us in the parade. It can somewhat serve as a promotional video if shown with another.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...25931277583503

3.) Promotional Video 2
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...89857480033479

4.)Promotional Video 3
The newest and my favorite one. It's a little fast with the words though.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...67322422816517

So Everyone which one do you consider the best?

Also feel free to use them for your own events, if your short a promo video or two.

Re: 578's FIRST Promo Videos

I like the first one probably the best, I like the amount of actual video and just action is cool, with the kickoff, etc.

All of these videos are nicely done, however I would also go with the first and last videos as my favorites. You did a great job on these videos.

If I could make a suggestion, there is one thing I am missing when I see these videos - a human voice. If you are trying to recruit members to your team with these, then maybe you might want to include more "personal" videos, such as some closeup videos of the students on your team with their words coming through. It can be them cheering on your team, or someone saying something along the lines of "That was awesome!". It could also be a short monologue (2 sentences or so) about why they love being on the robotics team. Even showing a video where everyone in the crowd says "Oh no!" or "Noooo!" as you show video of the robot tipping over can help, as it adds drama to the video.

This will also help if you are trying to recruit sponsors, as they want to see the "what's in it for them". Seeing students who are excited about science and technology, and then hearing them act excited, will help the sponsor see and hear that this is a wonderful program, and that it really does excite students about your team.

And last - but surely not least - girls are more likely to join the robotics team if it seems more personal. If they see other girls in this video or hear personal stories, then they'd be more likely to join. Even though there are girls who aren't initially intimidated by robots or technology, many girls have a "mental mindset" (See this thread) against science and technology. FIRST is as much about recruiting those who are "unlikely" to pursue science and technology careers as it is recruiting those who are already inclined toward these fields.

Re: 578's FIRST Promo Videos

I like the last video the best by far. I do like how you used the kick-off in the other videos, havn't seen that done before. But the 4th video (and a bit at teh end of the 3rd) is the only one that really explains what FIRST is and what you can do with it. Some of the clips were a bit long (the FIRST logo in the 4th and the award scene in the 3rd). Also, if you're from outside of FIRST, you really don't know what is happening with the Award scene, perhaps something explaining that would help. The music was exceptionally well fitted and was qutie good for these kinds of videos.
I'm going to say the same thing I say for just about every video. Consider the audience. These are obviously meant for a person outside of FIRST, but they don't really do a ton to explain what FIRST is and what you can do with it. When recruiting students and parents, mention the scholarship oppurtunities. Show businesses what it can do for them and what other corporations do it. Also try and show how FIRST is different from the other robotics competitions around. Perhaps also give some more consideration to the acheivements of your individual team (or further explanation of them).

Re: 578's FIRST Promo Videos

Over all they are very well done. Congrats! It must have taken you forever! What program did you use?
I liked the thrid one the best. I thought it was very well composed and had good continuity.
The fourth one is a little long on the FIRST logo, if you cut that down a bit you should be good.
As Sean said in the previous post, I liked the use of kickoff, VERY creative.
The second video should have some sort of title, it looks to much like a home movie without it.
Good choice of music, footage, and theme! You should really look into going into film or television.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everyone !

The second one well .... thats high quality fairport NY public access telivision for you

We didn't use any thing that exotic to create these films, in fact everything was thrown together with windows movie maker with the exception of the last one which was created in macromedia flash.
