Ipod Linux...

Has anyone else ever heard of iPod Linux? I have been looking into it for some time now, and then saw someone else post about it on the Vexforum.com forums. I've seen people on there throw ideas around such as, using an iPod (with linux) as an HTTP server, using it as a portable fully functional computer, etc... Can anyone else see any cool ideas for this?

iPodLinux is currently safe to install on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation iPods.
Don't try it on 4th generation (click-wheel) iPods, iPod Nanos, or any iPod Video. It might not work too well for you...

There is actually a version of iPod Linux called Installer2 which is pretty much designed by the community that is compatible with 4th Generation iPods. But it is unfortunately not made by the actual dev team so they won't give support on it... Also, if it makes any feel better, i installed it on my 4th Generation Click-wheel iPod with no problems.

Re: Ipod Linux...

I don't run Ipod Linux, but my friend does. He likes it, especially the ability to play doom.

As for me, I run a different version, called RockBox. RockBox is pretty cool, as it has some nifty functions, as well a full range EQ. It also cuts out the need to use Itunes to load music, as you can just drag and drop the files into the Music Directory.

Re: Ipod Linux...

Yeah Rockbox is pretty cool! What i am planning on doing is have the iPod firmaware, iPod Linux, and Rockbox all on my iPod and use iPod Application Manager to decide what to boot into depending on what i want to do.
