Challenging Reputation?

I was reading some of those topics again about the welcoming the new comers to the forums and not giving them (-) Rep for bringing up old topics for not knowing etc., and I was wondering if there was a system to challenge a reputation.

For instance I bump a topic that is from February on how to adjust a motor and I lose some rep. Can I challenge that (-) Rep by reporting it to an Admin or by having a public poll explaining myself?

Eh, I wouldn't really take the bad rep to heart. It's not like it enables/disables things on the forum. Plus, when I meet someone in real life from FIRST, I pretty much completely disregard CD rep. In fact, the thought of their rep doesn't even come up in my mind. So if I were you, I wouldn't really worry about it.

Yeah I've gotten some negative rep in the past too, but you just have to roll with it. Just don't let it scare you away from posting, I know when I got negative rep on one of my early posts I avoided posting for a while. So just learn from them and move on and keep posting....responsibly.

They are just dots, however if you feel strongly about having it removed, PM Brandon, and he'll look it over, and possibly neutralize it, but its just little green dots, noone will judge you on your count, its just a little toy thats there to amuse us be happy

Brandon does more than enough maintaining these forums and providing us all a place to discuss and create. I would much prefer to have a gigantic red bar next to my name than bother him to look over whether or not my thread bump was inappropriate.

We all get neg reps when we start out, just out of ignorance though. And there's always a few out there who are just there to come get you. As stated above, don't take it to heart. Just move on because people here can be lovely. If you absolutely need to, send a message to Brandon with the post link.

Or if you're a butt kicker(yours first), go put up some great posts and get positive reps.

That sucks... but can you imagine what a terrible waste of time it would be for Brandon to be looking at the reasons for 1000 different neg reps?

He wouldn't be able to get anything else done.

Yes, that's why I prefer you send a PM to the person who gave you the negative rep in the first place. If you can't get it worked out with them, then send me a message.

I understand completely and for the record I was not asking for myself, I was just curious. If a mod could close this topic, my question has been answered.

Yeah, I don't really care much about my own rep. If I get good rep, hey, bonus. If I read a post that I find particularly helpful or in the spirit of FIRST or what have you, I give positive rep. But beyond that, to me they're just dots.

I'm not terribly active here on CD, though. ("Welcome tckma. You last logged in 2-17-2006." hum. Before build season was over?) I typically find out about stuff on CD when I ask something at team meetings and the two students on my team who are religiously on here tell me about it in person.

I was scared off in the beginning, not by bad rep (I'm lucky I guess, in that I've never gotten bad rep), but because of the daunting size of the forums. It took me a while (a few minutes, maybe) to figure out where things were, since I was used to other php forum websites where the topics/sections are listed up front in the portal.

Newbies ought to feel welcome here... and I'm going to agree with previous posters. Giving out bad rep for simple mistakes is decidedly not GP. A gentle reminder would suffice. If it's a repeated offense, sure, but not first time.
