I think I found the FIRST anthem :D

Has anyone heard the song Europe - The Final Countdown?

The instrumental part is what constantly makes me think of the future, technology, engineering, developement, and robotics.

Re: I think I found the FIRST anthem :D

Although you might not know it, it arguably is the official FIRST anthem. Two other songs that are also are played again and again at competitions is Sirius by Alan Parson, and Get Ready For This by 2 Unlimited. Check them out.

Re: I think I found the FIRST anthem :D

I don't know if it's the FIRST anthem, but Final Countdown was our teams theme song a few years ago, and most of us still revere it and will probably make it again this year.

Re: I think I found the FIRST anthem :D

I still prefer Rush's the Mission.

Hold your fire --
Keep it burning bright
Hold the flame 'til the dream ignites --
A spirit with a vision is a dream with a mission

I hear their passionate music
Read the words that touch my heart
I gaze at their feverish pictures
The secrets that set them apart

When I feel the powerful visions
Their fire has made alive
I wish I had that instinct -- I wish I had that drive

Spirits fly on dangerous missions
Imaginations on fire
Focused high on soaring ambitions
Consumed in a single desire

In the grip of a nameless possession --
A slave to the drive of obsession --
A spirit with a vision is a dream with a mission...

I watch their images flicker
Bringing light to a lifeless screen
I walk through their beautiful buildings
And I wish I had their dreams

But dreams don't need to have motion
To keep their spark alive
Obsession has to have action --
Pride turns on the drive

It's cold comfort
To the ones without it
To know how they struggled --
How they suffered about it

If their lives were exotic and strange
They would likely have gladly exchanged them
For something a little more plain
Maybe something a little more sane

We each pay a fabulous price
For our visions of paradise
But a spirit with a vision is a dream with a mission...

I would like Ozzy Kamen to sing the vocal part for this song in the same octave as the original (do they even get to that part at the competitions???) at his next concert, and I'm sure everyone else would too.....

Re: I think I found the FIRST anthem :D

I think The Final Countdown is one of the greatest songs ever. In an English class I had, on the day of every Pistons home game we would play that song and perform a ritual to get our boys pumped. So now every time we hear that we start the ritual at competitions. GO PISTONS

Re: I think I found the FIRST anthem :D

The most fascinating thing about this song is that anyone you ask who remembers it coming out in the 80's almost immediately thinks it was associated with one of the Rocky movies when in fact it was never used in any of them.
(Survivor's - Eye of the Tiger was the big song from the Rocky movies, not The Final Countdown)
The song came out 10 years after the first Rocky movie did (movie: 1976, and song: 1986).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Final_Countdown_(song)

But yes, I agree it is an awesome song and actually because of this thread and the commotion about the song I added the song to my myspace page. lol

And as far as another good song by Europe, check out Carrie. Awesome 80's love rock ballad.

Re: I think I found the FIRST anthem :D

SparX's (thats weird) anthem sort of thing is Eye Of The Tigerit was playing during autonomus our final round of Buckeye in 2003. Then in 2004 during our last match they began to play it again! so at least to those of us that remember those times we think it is our kinda anthem.
