if you google: five diamond plate,
you get baseball

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_plate#home_plate

maybe it involves catching or throwing balls
home plate is a five-sided white rubber slab, maybe in this case it's a diamond plate

diamond plate - baseball - bases - touch and be safe - a robot gets to be "Safe" when touching a platform?

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast

Sorry if it's been said already, but the 5 could have something to do with 5 raised platforms which the game pieces have to be placed on and possibly defended. As for the diamond plate, maybe they're arranged in a diamond pattern, or maybe the field isn't a rectangle this year...

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast

Oh common, who needs photoshop when you have mspaint.exe?
Inverting the colors makes some of these things this easier to notice.

I'll start off with the less speculative part. The spacing of the diamonds on the diamond plate tell us the size of this piece. The center row seems to contain 12 diamonds. I'm guessing (no diamond plate nearby) that the spacing between each is an inch. Meaning this whole circle is a foot long. The one bet I will make is that if there is a circle of a diamond plate...it'll be a 1.5 foot diameter (Or one or two, whatever the spacing was on diamond plates)

Onto more speculative bits.

Inverted, the presence of 2 or 3 circular rings of different shades around the diamond plate circle is really obvious. A bit of testing seems to indicate that the rings are actually not circular. Someone more skilled in this than I should verify that. Anyway, anyone have any ideas what those rings (and their skew) could mean?

At the bottom right, however, the second ring seems kinda weird.

Those rings seem to me to resemble the appearence of stripes on along a sphere. The outtermost ring might be smaller, which would agree with that. Perhaps this is some kind of rounded hill. (A hemisphere truncated by a plane.)

On the right it looks like some objects on a plane. With a reflection of them above it sorta. I don't have a clue what it means

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast

Basketball is played with 5 players on each side, isn't it?

(Not that it's gonna be 5vs5 this year. That's just not gonna happen)

5's gotta either stand for: something to with goals, some sort of time interval, or simply a reference to a backbot.

What if instead of a true water game, they make a "water game"? There's sections of "water" that give you a penalty when you drive into it? No, that sounds too much like FLL. FRC games seem to be very abstract, instead of real-world based.

I like the idea of a central diamond plate platform. Triple Play was kinda boring with the lack of elevation and Aim High only had ramps on the ends. But we could get 14 ft/s across the field though both years. Perhaps we can catch some big air with a ramp in the center.

Re: Serious the Real hint

It looks kinda like the diamond plate is surrounded by stairs, like the kind into a pool, not that it would be in a pool, after all water is probably not an option.
I think you all know the kind of stairs I mean, drain a pool and you can probably see them. There is one step between the Diamond plate, and the edge of the picture.

the water could just be a reference to pool lining. maybe the flooring will be made of this instead of carpet this year or something else similar
