Re: iPhone

Oooohhh, Purty...

For a fully featured Video Ipod with palm-pilot functionality, $599 isn't that bad at all. When you add in all of the excellent phone capabilities, That number doesn't look so big any more.
Not that I have $599 to spend on a Phone/Ipod/Palm-pilot , I just think it is a pretty good value

Cingular is the only downpoint. I'm going to wait until a rival version is offered on a better carrier.

Nothing would come close to it for a while. Plus what's wrong with Cingular. (Apple signed a multi-year contract with them)

Re: iPhone

It's nice to look at, but I'm not planning on dishing out $600 for a phone any time soon. My worry is with the touchscreen, it will get incredibly greasy from hand oil and it seems like it'd be amazingly easy to scratch up.

Not true. I have an iPhone and I just wipe the screen with my shirt and it's clean. I also do keep my hands clean.

and i've been scratching the screen with my fingernails and i don't see any scratches.

To that part about dishing out the money, you're definitely not willing to dish out $2,420 on a Motorola Q or a blackberry pearl, or $2,720 on a Palm Treo.

Where am I getting all these numbers from?

http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/RDM...B41E0D305.html

the iphone is actually cheaper than other smartphones when you compare price of the phone AND service plan.

Re: iPhone

I was just watching the keynote, and all I can say is wow. I was recently considering purchasing a new phone and a new iPod because the phone I have is four years old, and I accidentally lost my iPod .. but I think I can wait until June now.

Re: iPhone

This is just my own opinion (because everyone in this thread likes the phone so much) but I think it looks ugly. And that's from looking at the Apple product page. I wouldn't buy it just because of the way it looks. I rather spend my money on a 18V DeWalt cordless tool set.

I've kept my mouth shut, I've seen people troll, and say flat out lies. But for the love of god, it's iPhone, not I-phone, IPhone, or any other combination of ways. iPhone. It's not hard.

:sigh: I'm waiting for the Zune v.2
Whether you get the Zune or a Video iPod, the problem between the two is the same: hard drives in portable objects. Hard drives by nature are not very fond of shocks, justles, sudden movements, etc., and to use them in a portable music player ensures that the device won't last forever.

(Which was one of the biggest reasons why I originally held off purchasing an iPod until they came out with a decent-sized Flash based one.)

What is a bigger scam? The iPhone or PS3!?
And this is what makes Flash-based media players so much better. Without the moving parts of the mini hard drives in Video iPods or Zunes, they are nearly indestructable. The original iPod Nano survived extreme stunts and still worked. The iPod Shuffle can survive almost anything and still rock on.

This is why I'd consider purchasing an iPhone, but not at least until my current Verizon contract is up in a year and a half. Plus by then, the iPhones will most definitely have more features, more memory storage, hopefully a 3G data connection, and will probably be cheaper. (Anyone remember that the original first-gen iPods were $400 and $500? Now five years later, they're half that price.)
