Sprocket Keys and Kit Gearbox

What type of sprocket keys do we need for our kit gearbox shaft? Are they called woodruff keys? And if so are they Full-Radius Style or Flat-Bottom Style? ED: Is this the right shaft key for our gearbox shaft?

Thx in advance from The A.Y. Jaguars

Re: Sprocket Keys and Kit Gearbox

I believe you can get your sproket keys at home depot or lowes. Just take in you sproket and they should be able to help you find what you need and not have to wait for it to ship.

I believe it's 1/8" key. You can get 36" keystock for about $2 from McMaster, Grainger, etc.

Re: Sprocket Keys and Kit Gearbox

The keys are 1/8" square keys, easily most likely at a Home Depot. However, in a pinch I have found that VEX square drive shafts will also work.

Re: Sprocket Keys and Kit Gearbox

I will warn you that the VEX Square shafts are actually rounded on the corners. This is to allow the shaft to fit into the plastic molded clutch packs.

For a very light duty application, and I mean extremely light, that "keystock" will work. However, for a drivetrain, arm, elbow, wrist, etc... I would NOT recommend the VEX square shaft.

As mentioned above, Home Depot should have 1/8" square stock. Otherwise, you can order from McMaster, Grainger, etc...

Good luck,

BEN
