Lube

Can anyone suggest a lubricant suitable for use with plastic gears (delrin/nylon)? I don't want to put something in and accidentally melt/weaken the gears. The lubricant in the FP gearbox seems about right, but I don't' know what that is. Can anyone help me out?

Re: Lube

I looked over some of the greases offered by McMaster-Carr, they have a synthetic Multipurpose Lithium Grease that claims to work well with plastics.

page 2086 in the online catalog.

Or you could visit your local auto parts store or hardware store and read the labels on the various tubes and cans of grease they offer for sale...

We've usually used some white-lithium grease.

A mathmatician, a physicist, and an engineer were all given a red rubber ball and told to find the volume.
The mathmatician carefully measured the diameter and evaluated a triple integral.
The physicist filled a beaker with water, put the ball in the water, and measured the total displacement.
The engineer looked up the model and serial numbers in his red-rubber-ball table.

Re: Lube

Delrin and nylon typically need little, if any, lubrication. Can you scrape off a little excess lube from the FP gearbox and use that?

I was actually planning on that. I just wanted to see if anyone had any great suggestions. Thanks to all who replied!

There's a chemical resistance database here: http://www.coleparmer.com/techinfo/chemcomp.asp
