When I grow up I wanna be a...
I know FIRST was created to generate more engineers, but what about those of us who don't want a career in a technical field?
The VCU Regional that took place a couple days ago was the first competition I've been to, and I noticed that the speakers at the end of the matches on Friday and Saturday were all "our company wants to employ people like you" and "hooray for businesses and corporations". (Except Dave Lavery's speech, which was so much better than the others.)
The way the others had made their speeches, I was kinda expecting Dave to be like "you're all gonna work for NASA, whether you like it or not".
One speaker on Friday seemed to think working for an insurance company (his) was the best thing that could happen to the average person.
I want to write fiction for a living, and I'm well on my way to following and achieving that elusive dream. A career in engineering? um, no thanks.
Is there anyone else who wants to do other things with their lives?
