2007 IRI Application Process and Other INfo

Below are some of the highlights for the 2007 Indiana Robotics Invitational. The full detailed document will be released by Wednesday April 25.

Registration and details will be on the official IRI Website: www.IndianaRoboticsInvitational.org.

A Total of 66 Teams will be invited to compete.

NEW FOR 2007:

PRE-Challenge
New for 2007 is the “Pre-Rookie Exhibition Challenge”. The PRE-Challenge is for teams that are in the process of forming and did not compete in the 2007 FRC season. Teams will use robots loaned or given to them by existing FRC teams. Pre-Challenge teams MUST have an existing team as their mentor during the IRI. The Pre-Challenge is intended to allow these newly forming teams the opportunity to compete in actual FIRST matches and learn from experienced mentors, field personnel and referees the “how to” of FIRST competition. It is expected that these Pre-Rookie teams will work with their mentoring teams during the regular IRI competition to gain valuable experience.

Marcia Beatty Memorial Scholarship
Marcia Beatty was a lifelong educator and dedicated to young people, Team Hammond and FIRST in Indiana. To honor Marcia, who passed away this past year, the Marcia Beatty Educational Foundation and the Indiana Robotics Invitational are awarding a scholarship to a 2007 FIRST team graduate who is pursuing a career in education. This will be a $1500 scholarship.

The Marcia Beatty Memorial Scholarship will be in addition to the existing technical based scholarships awarded as part of the IRI.

Dates and Times

The 2007 IRI is Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21.
Teams will be allowed to load in their pits on Thursday night.

Entry Fees
$400 – All Teams
Filled Back-Pack for an Elementary School Student
$1 Per Person Dinner Reservation Fee
Teams may choose to contribute to the IRI Scholarship Fund
(This is a VOLUNTARY DONATION)

Registration Process – CHANGED FROM PREVIOUS EVENTS

A. Registration begins at 6 PM (Indiana Time) on May 1st, 2007.
B. Registration ends at midnight, May 30th, or when the field is
full, whichever is first.
C. Registration will be through the IRI Website –
www.IndianaRoboticsInvitational.org

APPLICATION PROCESS
Application Process – Regular Competition:

1. May 1 – Applications Open
a. Teams apply through the IRI website and provide their team number, team name, contact person, contact email and contact phone numbers. Teams must provide a listing of 2007 Competitions attended and tell the IRI why they want to attend and how they will make the IRI a better event.
b. The application is date and time stamped by the website.

2. May 6 – Team Decisions Completed by Planning Committee

3. May 7 – Team Invitations Made

4. May 14 – Registration Deadline for Invited Teams

5. June 1 – Full Payment Due

6. Wait Listed Teams
a. Teams on the waiting list will be advised if a position becomes available. Teams will have 2 days to register and 2 weeks to send payment after notification.

7. July 1 – Final Team List Frozen
a. No additions to the team list will be made after July 1.

Note: Final Team Selection Process is at the discretion of the IRI Planning Committee and is designed to provide for a diverse field, recognition of teams supporting the IRI event and support for rookie and forming teams. Application date and time are important considerations in the final decisions.
Application Process – Pre-Rookie Exhibition Challenge:

May 1 – Applications Open PRE-Challenge
Teams apply through the IRI website and provide as much team information as they have available. Teams will designate the existing FIRST team that is mentoring them and will provide their support during the IRI.
Teams may register up to July 1 for participation in the 2007 IRI PRE- Challenge. There is no entry fee for the PRE-Challenge.

RULE CHANGES:
Rule changes are still being discussed and will be provided prior to registration / application opening on May 1.

The white paper outlining the 2007 IRI is now in CD Media.

Someone more talented than I can possibly post the link to it.

The captcha asked me what is 10 - 5 and for some reason wasn't satisfied with 5 (just refreshed and got the snow question no problem). Anyway, very nice job, went flawlessly otherwise. Got the confirmation email too, submission 20 at just 6:09... hope everybody gets their entrys in fast!

Submission #39 at 6:33 PM after a few tries - pared down the essay response a bit - not sure if that had anything to do with previous errors.

Overall a slick, efficient process. Good job, IRI guys and gals!
