Re: pic: 25's drive module

I keep ogling this drive system, and have been really wondering how the internals work on this thing. Is there any chance I could get my grubby little paws on the CAD for this thing? I have and use both Inventor and Solidworks. I'd love to see inside the design of a team that I've looked up to.

The Behind the Design book has a CAD drawing of our drive system. If you search this forum, you will find a lot of information on how it works. If you have anymore questions though, feel free to ask here or contact me.

Skyway Bead lok. The ones in this picture are shown as you buy them. We usually sand ours down and custom cut them to match our game play strategy.

Re: pic: 25's drive module

Any idea how much that module (as pictured) weighed?

I'm now working with Inventor to try and recreate this, so I can get a better picture on what it would work like with gears, as I've always used chain.

I can't recall exactly, but I felt it at champs and bharat told me a number I've long since forgotten. It wasn't that bad compared to how nice a system it is though.

Nice, I like the large gears. Where do you find such large gears and how much do they cost?

Thanks, Travis

I'd estimate about 25lbs.

You can get them at Boston Gear and McMaster.

Am I seeing bronze gears (the golden color ones)? Why would you choose these gears over steel gears.

Thanks, Travis

the brass gears are a little softer and hold their teeth better than steel when they go against each other

Re: pic: 25's drive module

For some reason I cannot delete this post
Mine no longer matters as Bharats fills you all in, my post has been spoiled.
Spoiler for Beat me to it:
The module you see weighs around 27 - 28 pounds.
The gears used in our bot were purchased from both Browning and Boston Gear.
Browning
Boston Gear

Gears mounted on the Skyway Bead-LOK Wheels were purchased from Browning then reamed, drilled, and cut to our needs.
Idler gears between the wheels where purchased from Boston Gear and were simply mounted onto axles.

These pictures spawned from a request by an alumni of Team 118, The Robonauts, in this thread.
