FIRST growing larger for Israel?
I just read an article in one of the largest newspaper of Israel, Haaretz.
It's a short article, and i says:
"Peres promoting a project of teenagers building robots
Presedint of Israel, Shimon Peres, is assisting in promoting a project in which teenagers build robots, in order to raise the number of engineers and fight the "brain-escape" .
[not in article] brain escape = an Israeli term that desribes the fact that many talented young people leave israel i order to study abroad, which causes Israel loss of many talented people who could develope and promote its industry[/not in article]
The FIRST Israel project is a collonyof the American FIRST organiztion, which tries to make science and technology more popular among youngssters, by organizing compatitions between teams who build robots. About 6 month ago, the President attended the Israeli finals of the competition, which is now in Israel for 3 years, and decided to assist it. Since then, the President has spoken about the project with CEO of Oracle CO., Larry Ellison, and with the Head of the Israel Defence Force, Gabi Askenazi, whom he convinced to join labs and engineers from the army to the project"
OK, so that's it.
Now the 3 people who are mentioned in this article are real big shots. One of them is the President of Israel, one of them is the 2nd wealthiest person in the world, and the third is the head of the Israeli army. They can pull any string they wish, and with thier assistance they FIRST will grow larger, no question about it.
I remember Shimon Peres at ourregional. He viewed the first game of the 2nd day, in which ,my team happened to lift 2 robots for a 60 points, and won the match! After that we took a picture with him near our robot, shook hands with him, and then he asked me to explain him how our lifting mechanism works. It was very cool! He also gave a good speech and promised to support FIRST. He has always been one of the most Honest politicians in Isral, and now i like him even more, as i see he's holding his word, and promotin FIRST. Seems like a bright future for FIRST isrel for me, what do you think?
