Championship Winners trend

67; 2004 division champ, 2005 champ
217; 2005 division champ, 2006 champ
177; 2006 division champ, 2007 champ

I'm not sure how far this goes back, but I'm pretty sure it didn't happen in '04 (none of 71,435,494 were division winners in '03 right?).

Why is this? Coincidence?

My theory is that these are strong teams anyway, capable of being a contendor any year. Also, they probably had an especially good group of students/mentors those years.

What's interesting is that none of them were finalists in their previous year, just semifinalists/division winners.

My prediction, one of these 6(9 including finalists) teams will win it all next year;
173
330
910
1270
1319
1902
(71)
(179)
(233)

what do you think?

Those teams are also known to consistently build a good robot and compete very well every year. One of the years, they will hit the jackpot. I do not agree that there is any specific trend except that they win a lot. The competition also requires a bit of luck.

494 won Curie in 2003 with 25 and 343 (and would go on to the Championship finals before losing to 65/111/469). Where it breaks is 2003; 469 was merely Archimedes finalist in 2002.

Still, I agree with Bharat--the best teams will eventually have a breakout season somewhere in there.

Re: Championship Winners trend

Well if no one wins two until Beatty wins five, then most certainly we can predict next year's winning alliance to be: 71, 173, and 330.
