Christmas in October?!?!

So, on my way home from school on an abnormally high 90 degree autumn day in October, I turned on the radio to listen to my favorite tunes. To my dismay, my favorite radio station was playing "Silver Bells." I thought maybe it was a different request, but the next song was "Rudolph!" "93.1, your Christmas Station." Has anyone else heard early Christmas songs??

I thought Christmas songs were reserved for after Thanksgiving!

Nah. Some people break them out in July. Others might not put them away...

Re: Christmas in October?!?!

It is pretty sad..
Every year it seems as though Christmas comes out earlier and earlier.

Christmas music is alright but there are only so many of those songs. I can't take hearing the same songs continuously for over 2 months!! (Unless its my playlist ).

Just don't go get a Christmas tree yet it may die in your living room. Big Mess!

Every year we travel from CT to PA for Ramp Riot we laugh because we hear Christmas tunes for the first time on their local radio stations...

Re: Christmas in October?!?!

Out here in NYC the X-Mas songs usually start making their appearance in the beginning of Nov. BUT they aren't played heavily up until Thanksgiving or days afterward and usually last till about mid-Jan depending on the station. Its a competition. When one station starts in the others chime in as well. It's all about how many listeners they can get and how they get them.

Re: Christmas in October?!?!

This is what happens when radio management starts listening to the consultants instead of their audience. “Our research shows that we can best grow and serve our audiences by splitting and extending our programming,” What Hogwash! Now Indi gets to hear talk radio in stereo, technically one step forward and two giant steps backward.

Enjoy the 93 days of Christams music..."I'm dreaming of a White Christmas...."

Re: Christmas in October?!?!

IMHO, the Christmas season is from Thanksgiving until Kickoff. That's when the 'classic' Christmas music like Jingle Bells and Silent Night should be played.

But Christmas music in October isn't that bad, as long as it's from Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Re: Christmas in October?!?!

We can get 93.1 in Kokomo, and I was scanning through the stations today, and was dumbfounded when I heard Christmas music. Emmis has sealed its fate in my book.

Some people on the forums of the newspaper site were glad that the traditionally hip-hop/teen music is gone, but their age is not in that group. Indy is slowly moving towards having no music stations for the teenage group.

Re: Christmas in October?!?!

I'm dreading when my work starts playing Christmas music. They already force employees to read stupid religion based jokes in the newsletter. I got so many complaints about the music choice last year, it made me sick.
