424's 2007 robot arm is very similar to 340's 2004 robot arm.

who notices a bit of a similarity to roxy's arm and 424's arm (07')?

Re: wink wink

Uh, what?

Edit: Moved to Robot Showcase since I guess they're trying to, uh, showcase their robot.

This thread makes me feel like I walked into the middle of someone's conversation.

Re: wink wink

It is common to see the same design used in previous years. Although this is usually only true with drive trains and bases, this is becoming more and more of a reality with manipulators too. There are only soo many different things you can do, and eventually it gets repeated. The neat thing is though that when it does there are more mods on the newer versions and they [usually] work better.

330 used the same basic manipulator setup in 2007 as in 2005, but changed the gearing and the arm to fit the game. Other than the end effector and the cross-section, they looked the same.

I was just looking through old pictures and remembered talking about Roxy's arm during brainstorming and how "if it ain't broke..." and I guess was just noticing that nobody ever commented on it. But it makes sense now that I realize that it's common for robots to incorporate similar ideas. we actually tested with the very arm off of Roxy. Then modded it to fit with the game. Just surprising that nobody said anything

'if it aint broke dont fix it'
if something works and is reliable why mess with it. sure, the idea wasn't their own, but there are only so many things you can do with something. why reinvent the wheel.

aside from that KISS is something we all live by.
the more complicated, the harder they are to fix on the spot.
