In Nats Finale
I found out there is a "Finale" thats not the actual Awards show. Being a newbie to Nationals I would like to know what it is and how much it (apperently) costs.

Re: In Nats Finale
Please, It hasn't been called the Nationals in years. It is the Championship.

Re: In Nats Finale
There is a "wrap" party that costs. If you purchase housing through Steele, the ticket is included.
That is the only non-public event. |

Re: In Nats Finale
There is an awards show at the end of Championships that is similar to the normal Regional awards show, except interspersed with the elimination matches on Einstein, and on a much larger scale.
Following the conclusion of Championships (which ends with the induction of the next Hall of Fame team, the year's Championship Chairman's winner) There is the wrap party, typically held in Centennial Park, which you do need tickets to, as John Boucher mentioned |

Re: In Nats Finale
It would be disrespectful to all of the international teams that attend. Nationals implies US-only, while the Championship is a broader term for the whole event, as the Championship includes FTC and FLL also, representing many more countries.

Is the proper term Championship Event? Yes. Will I refer to it as such in any team published documents? Yes. In passing conversation however, it has been, and will continue to be my habit to call it Nationals. It's like when the EduBot was changed to "Robovation". Did anyone start calling it Robovation in casual conversation? I know I didn't. Or VEX becoming FTC or FIRST and US FIRST, as someone already pointed out. I don't see any harm in using any of the above interchangeably in a casual conversation. If you're producing something to be distributed to sponsors, media, etc, then certainly you should use whatever name is officially sanctioned. |

Kinda like people yelling at others for calling the organization U.S. FIRST & not FIRST. It doesn't really make a difference. Us old school folks who actually were around back in the days before Houston, and Atlanta, still call it the Nationals, and to me they are interchangeable and people know what you are talking about whatever wording you decide to use, but whatever. ![]() So.. long story short, in conversations with others who are in FIRST it doesn't really matter (er.. SHOULDN'T MATTER), but when you type something for a press release or anything official, use The Championship Event terminology. Last edited by Elgin Clock : 23-12-2007 at 21:36. |

Re: In Nats Finale
Yup, overall it's known as the FIRST Championship. For FRC it's the Championship Event, for FTC it's the World Championship Event, for FLL it's the World Festival. The FIRST Robotics Conference is held in conjunction with the FIRST Championship.

Re: In Nats Finale
I prefer Nationals, personally. The biggest reason: National Champions vs Championship Champions....
I would like FIRST to change the name from Championships to Worlds. World Champions. That's an accurate representation that doesn't sound redundant and is politically correct. |

I wouldn't go that far. Some of us simply know that "Nationals" is incorrect and wish to help everyone involved with the organization speak precisely; along with helping them construct their robots precisely, write their software instructions precisely, write the rules for their competitions precisely, track their teams' finances precisely, etc. I pesronally had to work hard to "unlearn" calling it the "Nationals" after I heard folks calling it that. That took brain cells I desparately needed for other things - like walking and chewing gum. ![]() It's surprising that some folks dislike being correct about matters of fact. ![]() Blake PS: On the other hand, if someone were being "corrected" for not holding correct opinions, now that is another kettle of fish entirely....
