Question Human Arm Arm Controller

Hey, our team was looking into using a device that a driver would attach to their arm with a pot at each joint, and depending on where they moved their arm, the robot's arm would do the same thing. Question is, has anyone else done this, and if so I would like to know:
1. How accurate and reliable was it
2. How did it attach to the driver's arm
3. General information on it and how it was constructed.
Thanks for the help
Malhon

Re: Human Arm Arm Controller

We did that last year. This being my first year on the team, I don't know all of the stats on it, but apparently it wasn't working for a while. We got it fully functional in October, and it's worked pretty well since (I actually did a demonstration for some elementary school kids a month ago with it). We've got a kind of "chest plate" (or I guess that's what you'd call it) that goes on over your head, with the arm attached to it. We cut up a plastic tube and attached it to two places on the arm--the forearm and upper arm. You slid your arm through the tubes, and however you moved your arm, the robot's arm moved.

Hopefully this was a little help

Re: Human Arm Arm Controller

We're planning on having a combination of two pots to control the angle of the arm, one at your shoulder and one at the elbow, so the arm would be at the angle of your forearm relative to your body. just trying to figure out something to attach to the person's body and upper arm to get the reading there. Hey, maybe I could have a pot surgically implanted in my shoulder joint....

Re: Human Arm Arm Controller

We had a medical arm brace with a pot substituted at the elbow joint. And a medical wrist brace was then bolted to the elbow brace, the wrist had 2 momentary forward backward switches hooked up to it to control grabbing and rotating the tube.
it worked really well really intuitive also. we were originally planning on doing a shoulder pot to but then never really found out a good way to mount it...
