Hey Guys!!
Do you know how many amps we need for robot controller and compressor?? Thanks!! |

Re: AMPs for RC and Compressor
As far as I know, they will both run safely using a 20 Amp breaker.

Re: AMPs for RC and Compressor
The manual recommends running the compressor of a 20 amp breaker and the robot controller and <R55> states that the robot controller must be protected by a 20 Amp breaker. I know, you asked how much they draw. I don't know exactly, but I image the compressor draws around 10amps (probably more on startup) and the robot controller around 2.

Re: AMPs for RC and Compressor
The RC, teathered to the OI sucked 600mA from the powersupply I ran it on today.

Re: AMPs for RC and Compressor
The RC is dynamic but the internals are voltage regulated and will shut down if the regulator is asked to supply more than 1.5 amps. However, the RC is the most critical component on the robot. Insure that power is connected to a point near the battery in you design and at a point where high current will not lower the voltage to the RC during match play. The RC will suspend operation when the voltage falls below 8 volts for a short period of time. During this time, the RC is powered by the backup but all outputs are inhibited.
The compressor start current is 25 amps while it's run current is between 10 and 12 amps. Due to the high start current for the this Spike only, electrical rules allow you to change the 20 amp fuse in the Spike to a 20 amp circuit breaker. Do it now so you won't forget. The fuse will burn open eventually. |

Re: AMPs for RC and Compressor
So will I just use 20amps fuse on Circuit Breaker and don't use the Spike??
Or will I use both of them?? Thanks! ~Begum~ |

Re: AMPs for RC and Compressor
You want to replace the dumb yellow fuse on the spike with a 20 amp breaker. It will stick out and look a bit silly, but it's highly advised. Connect the spike to a 20 amp breaker on the breaker panel. So there are 2 20 amp breakers involved in the compressor/spike setup.

Re: AMPs for RC and Compressor
I would use a spike, but replace the yellow 20 amp fuse and put in a 20 amp auto resetting fuse.
