Who's using hybrid mode?
I know it's early in the season, but I was wondering if any teams are definitely using hybrid mode or definitely not using hybrid mode.
Thanks! |

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
well we know for sure what we want to do in hybrid mode, whether or not we can pull it off is another story lol.

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
well im not on a team but the robot im building in my spare time (a mini robot) will have IR comm. on it, actually im designing it right now

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
Since the creation of autonomous mode, my team has always done something in it (well, at VCU last year we did nothing, but that problem was rectified when the arm was fixed at Palmetto). So, we will most definitely be using hybrid mode; the jury is still out on exactly what we will be doing, but we will do something. Even without scoring, hybrid/autonomous can be very useful; last year, we used it to rotate our turret into playing position, which us saved several seconds in teleop. This year, something as basic as driving forward for a few seconds can both score points and save you time in teleop. If all else fails, that is probably what we will do (autonomous beauty contests are sooo boring, we like to avoid that).

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
yeah, we have been doing autonomous every year, (well, both years... haha) and both years we have been very succesful, last year, we actually won the automation and innovation award for hanging the most ringers in autonomous mode, i think we missed maybe, 3 or four times in the whole regional and championship? we plan on doing autonomous at least, not so sure about hybrid, im sure we'll have something
we like them points! |

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
The Capitals haven't had anything beyond driving straight for an autonomous mode, but this year the incentive is just Too Darn High. What we're planning is a little ambitious, but it'll be heavenly if we pull it off.

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
I think everyone should this year... its so easy to score even 4 points.... I would hope most teams do use it...

Hybrid mode is cool.

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
I'm actually a little bit worried; our team wants to add a LOT of functions to it: do 3 laps AND knock a ball off. They also want automatic turning, as well as automatic "bumping," leaving the only thing for the RC to do is change lanes- which is STILL more work on my part.

Were going totally autonomously

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
We're doing what programming manages to do...
I've told them that what I want is a robot that can run laps autonomously for minutes at a time. Then have make the robot capable of avoiding stationary objects using edge-finding techniques. Our Mecanum wheels aren't going to make it particularly easy for our programmers, I fear. |

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
Team 904 will most certainly have an awesome hybrid mode this year. We are taking a single command from the robocoach and going 100% autonomous afterwards.

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
I know our team will be doing something in auto, and I have high hopes that it will involve scoring more than 4 points (which every team should be able to do, at the sacrifice of their robots of course). The past 3 years we've written increasingly more complex and in depth auto modes, only to get no practice time yet again and either succeed at about 10% of capacity (2006) or outright have it fail (last year and 2005).
I have my ideas on how to do it all, but what will actually be done depends on what this year's main programmers do, as going to school in a different city kind of prevents my being here to help much. Robocoach will be needed at least for the ball initially, but after that... |

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
we're definitely using hybrid mode, and thinking of using 2 robocoaches, only because the IR interference from the robocoach station to the other side of the field might be so much as to prevent signaling our robot. We still need to test this of course, but it's all up in the air until we have our controller done.

Re: Who's using hybrid mode?
We are definitely using some sort of Autonomous for Hybrid mode. We might steer clear of the IR sensor though. I'm thinking of using an ultrasonic sensor from parallax.
