Hey guys... were do i begin ?
I think i will begin with my oldest injuries: My first year i was cutting tread for our wheels and i sliced my hand open Then my most recent injury was again in 07' where i was tightening a fully charged drill with a 5/16 drill bit and i pressed the trigger and my hand slipped onto the chuck and the drill bit drilled my hand and i left like all the skin from the space between the thumb and forefinger... on the drill bit, not sepecially delicious. We soaked it in bleach and forged forward, O YEAH ! I then went to a clinin where my hand was cleaned and i recieved three stitches. So yeah |

Ex. Someone on my team used a wood cutting chop-saw blade to cut box aluminum. It ripped the aluminum, and Almost injured the person in question. Moral of the story, use proper blades. Is this any less true because this person didn't have to go to the emergency room? Of course not. Last edited by Joe G. : 17-01-2008 at 16:58. |

Also, my post was a complete falsehood just to satirize what the thread hard turned into; I was actually injured kickboxing and required surgery. I hope your team is more mature than you are. |

This thread should also be in a forum other than General because it is more of a Chit Chat thread. Last edited by JaneYoung : 17-01-2008 at 23:21. |

Up front, I have had not injuries at robotics other than the unexplained nicks, metal shavings, and similar minor things. Now, I would like to let you guys know about one set of awards that will kind of explain why we are not exactly happy about what this thread has become. These awards are the Safety Award and its associates, the Star of the Day and the safety credits. Safety is a priority here. Injuries are to be avoided wherever possible. This is why:
Please show a little more maturity when you post. You will soon be adults and expected to act like it. |

Re: FIRST Injuries
If you follow enough precautions, FIRST is a pretty safe environment. The closest I ever got to anything dangerous was shorting (and killing) one of our batteries whilst trying to charge it. This year we've ordered APC connections to graft on to our battery chargers. That should put an end to the danger.
I also cut myself on a twist-off cap on a bottle of sparkling cider at a 294 end-of-build celebration... |

Re: FIRST Injuries
THIS FORUM IS MAINLY FOR PICS!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU HAVE A STORY YOU NEED TO BACK IT UP. ONLY IF THE STORY IS TRULY HILARIOUS, THEN WE MAY CONSIDER IT TO BE TRUE WITH OUT A PICTURE.

You obviously are missing the point. We are telling stories as a WARNING, not for fun. We don't have to prove them with pictures, partly because chances are nobody has a camera or the "presence" of mind to use one. Most of us have teammates on here who can verify stories if needed. /soapbox |

Re: FIRST Injuries
sneeble,
It may be frustrating that this thread is not turning out the way you had planned for it to. You can't force it to be what you want. Anytime someone creates a thread, it then becomes open to discussion. You opened this thread in the General forum, opening it to discussion and participation. It was then moved to Chit Chat where it is still open to discussion and participation. It is my understanding that you want photos of injuries that occur in FIRST. By looking at the way this thread is playing out, you aren't going to see that many photos. a. there may not be that many to post - which would be a good thing, showing that shop safety is being following b. posters are not interested in showing their injuries for any numbers of reasons c. this is a very busy time of year and the focus is on build and preventing injuries during build d. maybe the general attitude in this thread is a turn-off. That's a possibility that you might consider. Typing in all caps tells all of us that we are being yelled at. Telling the members of CD that their injuries will only be judged as true with the proof of the photo is insulting. When an injury occurs, there is pain involved and no one needs to prove that they have suffered. Common courtesy and respect go a long way in ChiefDelphi. I was a fan of 1841's robot last year, I'd like to think your team isn't aware of how bad you are making them look; please grow up (which I would prefer) or stop posting. |
